Promotion This Season ?

I would be happy with a top 8 finish. Any talk of promotion ignores how strong the likes of Ipswich, Soton, Leicester, Birmingham etc are, as well as clubs that were in a similar position to us that have also massively strengthened, such as QPR.

Negative overreactions to losing a game are par for the course on here, nobody bats an eyelid. But as soon as you wanna talk positive out come the health and safety advisors with their clipboard and pens ready to piss on any enthusiasm and hope

What a miserable bunch. I believe we were 7 points off the playoffs last year after a fairly shitty season. We absolutely 100% are one of the teams battling for the top 6, and if Sheehan didn't believe that I'd lose total faith in him

This is football. Being hypocritical and one eyed should be a given. Having blind faith in your team and your players is more fun than maintaining your image on an internet messageboard. Try it!

Top 2. 👍

Promotion talk should be reserved until around Xmas period. That's not negative. Just reality. Live in hope - yes always. But let the football do the talking.

No that's not negative I agree, but starting a thread immediately after the first game of the season telling us to "get real" and proclaiming that our new signings lack any real quality probably could've been reserved a little longer too, don't you think?

I guess I just don't understand why being knee jerk negative is acceptable - Monmouth has perfected the art in fairness to him - but being knee jerk positive is met with scowls and condescension

Just my 2p

Early days but I really feel we are building something at the club.
Not worried about early performances myself
I think once we bring in the four players mentioned by Sheeran and they gel, think we will have a superb team that will be both entertaining and successful
Patience is called for though.
I get the impression the owners are serious about being successful as is shown by the backing they are giving Sheehan
When we were being gas lit about the vision off the field and the quality in the boardroom...most Swans fans were savvy enough to smell the bullshit and see that the club was rotting from its head.
Fast forward the blink of an eye, open a window and the breeze has totally transformed our club.
All I see now is vision, commitment, action (not words) and the great smell of competence.
Great time to be a Jack - and thank you from the bottom of my heart to the current leadership group!!

Not by me. I used a ROFL emoji because its fking hilarious.

What is interesting as well is that the 3 teams with parachute payments and the big spenders from below all look a little flakey and flawed to me.
There are always surprises - but this division looks very competitive top to bottom - why not us?

if we had a Scott Sinclair (in his prime) type of player, and Brendan at the helm then promotion talk would be understandable.

Put a player like Sinclair, who could create chances for himself with his dribbling and score 20+ goals from the wing, in this team and I'd be putting a decent bet on us for promotion immediately.

Isn't our opening run of games supposed to be very difficult? If we make the signings we want by the end of the month and are in the top half of the table after say 10 games, then there'll certainly be reasons to be optimistic.
Yup, not sure if it was Opta or not that did the analysis but we came top of the table for the hardest 1st 10 games

The other 23 teams all have, on paper, easier starts than us

Looked it up. It was Opta over the 1st 9 games

lol no. I’m confident we can marginally improve on last season but that’s it. 6th to 10th if I had to make a guess. We don’t have the quality up front nor the squad depth to challenge. But we do seem to be moving in the right direction and I didn't expect to be saying that this season. So credit where it’s due. This is the most positive I’ve been at the start of a season for many years.

As likely to be relegated as promoted, and as likely again to be mid table. This looks like it will be another championship where anyone can beat anyone. Maybe even more so, as the relegated teams don't look much cop so far, and I reckon the promoted clubs are going to find it harder than they fantasised.

So as Sham would say, it's just a ride. Enjoy it, and just try and win one match at a time and, as a Brentford fan said all the time on 606 in about 2005, when they were our rivals, see where the journey takes us.
Not even Martin, Williams, Duff or Kevin Cullis could achieve relegation with this squad. And to prove my point Martin and Williams both guided us to mid table finishes with inferior squads.
Sheehan, unless his new manager bounce goes disastrously wrong won’t get us relegated.
My glass at the moment is 3/4 full - if we do get a wow striker who starts hitting the back of the net regularly then it will be 7/8’s full, especially as there looks to be goals throughout the midfield.
Let’s dream for once eh 😉

Absolutely right. Love the H&S analogy!
I think for me at least it’s not so much blind faith as a huge shift in emphasis and attitude from the club itself. Masses of positivity not only in our recruitment but also in how the board have attracted Luca Modric and Snoop Dog on board.
People say they to hope for a good season makes us sound entitled as that lot up the road but they were expecting whilst we are hoping. There’s a big difference. So turn up with some swagger on Saturday and hope the players do the same. We might lose but we might put 3 past them. COYS
