I spent years gushing over getting Joey back, but he’s using a Zimmer frame these days surely. Is he still playing for Stoke? Lower league player now.

Only played twice this season. Injured by the looks of it.

Out for 9 months I think, currently regaining fitness.

Allen is playing for Stoke right now against Bournemouth

He has only just come back on Boxing Day, got injured on 7th March with ACL. Assume you don't watch Wales.

Not generally. Only if they're in tournaments.

You can't really comment that he is passed if you aren't aware he's missed the last 30 odd games for Stoke through major injury!

We will just have to see how he is on his come back now.

He’s been excellent tonight for Stoke to be fair.

Stoke look better than Bournemouth. A draw is a good result here.

You mean the facts that he's 31 next birthday and nobody has bothered scooping him up from Stoke since 2018 aren't enough?

I didn't say he was past it anyway. I just said that we could do better. And we can. Let's be honest, if he'd never played for us before as fans we'd be horrified at the thought of entrusting our Premier League midfield to a Championship player of his age and recent track record.

Can't argue with that, no matter how much we love Joe for his time here and his performances for Wales.

Agree with the spending IF we go up as well. Look at what we did in the summer of 2011. Danny Graham, Wayne Routledge, Leroy Lita and Michael Vorm for around £10m. What's that in today's inflated market, somewhere between £20m to 30m? Topped up with the loan arrival of Gylfi in January of course.

Had we gone down after that season, Graham, Routledge and Vorm would all have been worth more than we paid for them and probably on low enough wages to keep hold of them for a push at an instant return.

(From looking at those transfer fees, I was reminded we sold Shaun MacDonald to Bournemouth of all clubs that summer. He stayed long enough to play in the PL for them and got promoted with Rotherham last season. Played 10 games this season so far. Forgot all about Shaun.)

If we can be a solid Championship club with the occasional foray in to the top division I’d be quite happy. Norwich, WBA, Watford, Palace, Brighton, Blackburn - that’s the kind of club we are and we should be amongst them battling it out for promotion every couple of years. Watford and West Brom have got it down to an art, that’s why I was so disappointed to see WBA take on Allardyce as it smacks of a desperation they haven’t had before.

The worse thing for me is we can’t be there. Sods law we’re challenging for automatic promotion and having one of our best years for ages, but we can’t show our support.
