New sponsor for home shirt confirmed.
Can't say I've heard of them, owned by Gulf Oil.
As long as it's not a betting firm...

Made an account just for this post.

There's something very suspect about this sponsor.

The brand did not exist online 4 days ago, so it's popped out of nowhere. They market like a premium brand but if they're providing for the concourse it's going to be instant granules, surely. Their website only exists on the wider Gulf Oil domain, and their marketing also talks like they have coffee shops (mentioning how good it is to interact with their baristas) despite... also noting the product can't be bought anywhere yet.

I am immediately reminded of the Mission Winnow Ferrari F1 sponsor, which was a front for Malboro: https://youtu.be/H7M74iEonn0?t=480

My gut feeling is that this is sportswashing for a 'big oil' brand in an era where they're starting to be viewed in similar or even worse terms than tobacco companies. There's also of course the corporate hobnobbing between them and our owners (who are of course venture capitalists with fingers in many pies) as well as any potential tax shennanigans - although I'll hold my hands up on that and say I completely lack the expertise to know if that's relevant or plausible.

I'll be pleased if I'm proving wrong but I suspect this is a brand you'll never see outside of the stadium, and while I agree I'm always pleased to see no gambling sponsors, I don't think we're many rungs up the ladder of ethics here.

The definition of over-thinking it.

Funnily enough, I’m on holiday at the moment so when the notification about this came through, thought I’d have a little google search on them. Couldn’t find naff all which I found a bit strange.
Didn’t something like this happen a number of years ago with one of our gambling sponsors?

No idea if it’s anything to do with the gist of your post mind, just thought it strange at the lack of info out there.

The announcement says the brand is launching fully in 2024? I don't think it's an issue.

Yes, same thing crossed my mind -was it Bet East? They never really did exist and was some kind of way of offloading tax debt or something.

Yeah, you only have to read the article.

Its goot have a coffee company rather than a dodgy payday loan company or a gambling company. Owned by our old friends at Gulf Oil as a bonus

The oil and coffee industries cause more than their share of problems, but yes good to avoid gambling sponsorship for the next Sky Bet Championship season.

Yes, let’s hope we have grounds to be positive and that it’s not just a slick marketing ploy.
