Rob Reiner

He is suing the Beeb now as well although I do approve of that. They are a scummy, snidey organisation and I hope they wither away to nothing.

That is a ridiculous thing to say. They are one of the treasures of the UK. Would you rather welcome in beacons of truth and fairness like GB News and Fox News?
What they did with the report on Trump was unforgivable and the editorial staff responsible have to pay the price, they have sullied the reputation of the organisation and its political reporting. But to badmouth the whole organisation, its history, the breadth of its offering on the basis of one narrow mistake is beyond stupid.

Talking of ridiculous things to say. Calling the BBC a Treasure. LMAO. They are no better than the two institutions you just listed. What makes you think Im basing my opinions on this incident? Im a little more discerning than that. My opinions on the BBC have been formed over 50 years. Look into the Trusted News Initiative. They literally tried to censor opposing viewpoints.. Scandalous. Another incoming lawsuit hopefully.

"On July 11, 2025, the United States Department of Justice filed a statement of interest in support of the plaintiffs. Assistant Attorney General Abigail Slater urged the United States District Court for the District of Columbia to find that colluding to suppress competing viewpoints in media reporting and on social media platforms can constitute a violation of federal antitrust law."

I hope they get sued into oblivion. I use Ground News now. No more biased news for me.

Just read what the Trusted News Initiative was about. As far as I can see it was an alliance of news outlets - which included the BBC - to try and stop the spread of disinformation during national elections such as India, and it particularly came into its own during COVID, where of course you had crackpots denying it was a 'thing' and the anti vax brigade.

Fail to see why that was a bad thing.

“I hope they get sued into oblivion”

You understand that means you hope the British public gets sued into oblivion don’t you?

Yeah. Because that’s exactly what this country needs now.

Sod the NHS or the defence budget or welfare. Let’s give that ridiculous buffoon billions of UK public money.

Great.

You fail to see whats bad about colluding to suppress competing news agencies when it wasnt even clear who spreading the misinformation. OK.

I've never understood the clamour amongst some to destroy the BBC.

Sure, there are plenty of things I don't like about it. The licence fee is one - I'm not sure that model is appropriate for the modern day. Their continually questionable selection of guests for Question Time is another. I also think the Trump Panorama thing was a mess and hugely embarrassing.

But on the whole it does a vital job. It is certainly more trustworthy than GB News or Sky News, or any red top newspapers. It's creative programming is still the envy of many. Its hyper-local broadcasting (such as its regional radio services) are a increasing rarity these days. It's not owned by some megalomaniac billionaire with a warped world view, which is why so many of them hate it.

As a country, we would be considerably worse off without it.
