He did very well to get Southampton promoted, you cannot be a bad manager if you get a team promoted over 49 games, it just isn't possible to fluke promotion, same as Steve Cooper with Forest.

But it's very clear so far this season that the step up is way too much for him. They conceded 63 goals in 46 league games last season, and the way things are going they'll ship 100+ at this level. He's never been able to organise a side without the ball, not with them, us or MK. His biggest fault, no question.

This guy's ego has no limits. He'll already be eyeing up a better move. He'll look at the likes of Kompany/Potter and think he's gonna get a bigger club.

And to be fair, when you look at Kompany failing upwards to Bayern Munich, then why not? Kompany shouldn't have been anywhere near that job, but he got it because he's set out his stall as a "process" coach, like Martin.

It wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if Martin ends up with a job like Spurs, or Villa, or something like that in years to come. I'm not saying it's right but I'm saying that's the way football appears to be going - if you're on the "Pep Train" you're going to get employment, that much is clear.

Not sure he did well with the one of the strongest squads in the league, he did all he could to blow promotion.

What Cooper achieved was miraculous when you consider where they were when he took over. Lego head couldn't achieve that in a month of Sundays.

Kompany's reputation as player would have helped massively with his appointment at Bayern.

Exactly this.

Promotion would have been the bare minimum expectation at Southampton given the squad and budget available, and even then he almost screwed it up.

I would have stood a good chance of getting that side promoted.

You should watch our highlights from Blackburn home a year or two back. We had nearly 80% possession, boosted by us kicking off at regular intervals.
This game was incredible. JDT could probably still apply that out of possession approach to beat RM today

His coaching video prior to the game was hugely embarrassing for the club.

Blackburn weren't worried about us having the ball at all. They knew it was only going to go sideways and backwards.

The fact Martin is managing in the Premier League is up there with some of life's greatest mysteries.

Bullshit baffles brains my friend. Endless examples throughout history demonstrates.

What is everyone else’s ideal brand of football?
For me it was when we had an absolute solid core through the middle (we’re not a million miles away from being a variation on a theme here IMO), a goal scorer up top (obviously) and the main factor… 2 full backs and wingers working in perfect harmony. Bombing forward and with cutting edge but also very hard to get passed.
Basically 2010

Usually the brand is irrelevant if successful, unfortunately...

Everything seemed to be quick, free kicks, throw ins, goalie throws, balls into the box. Relentless
Loved that period, success was a by-product.
