I was interested to see the other Championship clubs spend via a link given in the Harry Darling thread. The table below shows the position highest total wages to lowest and the last column is league position.

Not sure the accuracy of the salaries but they look in the expected ball park.

Interesting that our cousins up the road are apparently 7th in the wages paid department, we're 19th.

So our current league position is 7 places above our wage position, meaning only Blackburn and Sunderland are doing better.

If that's accurate (probably not) and we have one of the lowest wage bills in the league yet are still losing money hand over fist, that's worrying.

I'd say the majority of clubs if not all of them are in the football league.

The Swiss Ramble does the occasional financial deep dive on a Championship club. Most of, if not all of them are losing more than £10m a season.

As for us, a ballpark figure for our gate receipts is probably less than £6m a season. I doubt we sell more than about 7-8000 full priced adult season tickets which would be around £3.5m. Chuck in concessions and walk ups. We are heavily dependent on TV money, subsidy and player sales.

That's my take on it as well.

Anyone who wants to buy a football club these days must be crackers.

I quite like Ryan Reynolds take on it. "time-consuming, emotionally draining, and financially stupid, but also addictive".

Just to put a little prospective on this, I was doing my shift in work many years ago, a new guy needed some coaching so my manager asked me to look over his work, I basically dropped to my knees, it was Robbie! I spent the next hour trying to compose myself.
How much would a Robbie James be worth now in the Premier League?
I'll start, 15 million at least

It is very addictive. Why on earth would anyone in their right mind return week after week to watch us play 😂

I was working at Ford in Jersey Marine when Ronnie Rees started there.

This we need multi millions because we don't know when our career ends bullshit, they could work like everyone else. Any player whose made it as a Premier League player has no need to work ever again in their life and can retire anywhere. Unless you David Beckham then you can grift for the rest if your life.

In the company of a legend, this is why we were privileged to grow up in a different world to nowadays 😍
