You could turn it the other way and say it's great that he's got the confidence to back himself. A young player less confident they'll make it in this highly competitive sport might leap at the chance to get a longer contract and earn more money before they drop down the divisions in search of a new club. Instead Parker is saying he's confident he's good enough to make it as a pro and he's only going to extend his contract if the money is good enough.

Can't quite understand why this attitude vexes so many people.
In situations like this, many situations can be brought up and discussed that have some sort of insight to the situation.
One thing for sure, rightly or wrongly.........the agent will see finances as the main thing for his client or/and for himself.

The lad at 17 just needs to concentrate on playing football.

That's an interesting read and shows how level headed Ben Davies is. He knew that the important thing in his career at such a young time was playing as regularly as he could at first team level.
Maybe the Swans offering Parker a new contract as soon as he got injured, considering he had 2.5yrs left in his contract was in hindsight the incorrect thing to do.
