• Thank you very much | Diolch yn fawr

All at JackArmy.net would like to thank everyone who has played a part on this site over the past 25 years whether that is through writing, contributing, moderating, posting or just visting and reading.

Without any of you the work that has gone into the site would have been pointless and we will always be proud that we built, generated and managed a community that was such a big part of the Swansea City supporting life for so long.

It has been a pleasure to bring to you the site for so long but the time is now right to turn the lights out for the last time but we do it both with a heavy heart and a sense of pride driven by the so many messages received since we announced the closure.

The site will remain here for a period until we archive and mothball it for the last time later this summer but all aspects are in a read only format.

Thank you though for all the memories

    Phil Sumbler

Old half penny coins pre decimal days .

Will get my coat on that note , if I can remember where I left it .

Stick 50p in the meter
I certainly remember the coin meters, but I can’t remember how long it would last or even the way it worked. We have a pre payment meter in our place, not through falling behind on bills, it was just here when we moved in, although come to think of I wonder how much we have been ripped off on the pre payment meter standing charge fees since we’ve had the blinking thing. Perish the thought. No doubt throughout the years, hundreds if not even thousands 😞

As a teenager in school, me and my mates opted out of school dinners as soon as we could and, being situated on Port Talbot's Station Road (Glanafan Comp), it was easy for us to stroll along to Woolworth's and buy our own grub. I remember a favourite of mine from the deli counter was 'brawn', a sort of grey cooked pork concoction. Anyone remember that? Can you still get it?

No mate, never went in there much, but used to go down to a place in Water Street on a lunchtime, can't remember the name but I think it was a fish and chip shop cum cafe because I used to have a battered beefburger and chips in there. But the main attraction was that it had a Space Invaders machine!

Call in Percy Gaen’s for a packet of fags on the way back to school is it?

I don’t think there would have been a Space Invaders game there until about 1978 at the earliest, were you still in school then? I used to work with a company that supplied video games and amusement machines around that time and afterwards, might have been an earlier video game.

No, we're talking early 70s. Perhaps it was an earlier video game.

Bang on there. I would have sworn it was a couple of years earlier, 76 I thought, but google tells me it was 78.

Must admit, i was slightly mesmerised when Space Invaders first come out, it's basic as hell. But not a bad game. What was it now, something stupid like count 21 or 22 shots for max on the ufo, then thereafter 14 shots for the max.. Ha ha can still hear the sounds now.
