Season 24/25 | The Official Match Thread | Derby County 1 Swansea City 2 | The EFL Championship

Great to get the 3 points after the last 2 games.

But a massive but.

Derby did what Derby do and play the pressure percentage football, but did we have to give them a helping hand. So many self inflicted passage of plays.

Total relief at the end, but does again show how we can only play one way. So many short passes that never relieved the pressure with very limited out ball.

Excellent win. Thought we were fantastic for the first 20-25mins. Derby didn't know whether to press or stand off, and when they pressed we just played around them and through the lines.

So, what on earth happened after that? Especially second half. We went from playing it around at will to not being able to string five passes together. And it can't be as simple as Derby being more aggressive in the press - which Paul Warne mentioned post-match. Where did Grimes go? Cullen couldn't pass. MPH useless as usual, so that didn't help. Tymon, Ronald, giving the ball away. And Key, when he came on, giving the ball away again in dangerous areas by running with the ball when he should have stayed in position.

How wet was that pitch?
I think if we had managed three points, one from each of the last three games we would have been reasonably content so we probably got the points we deserved.
Shame that Burnley and Leeds got more than they deserved though.
Not sure how we managed to lose our shape and ability to tackle and pass and they identified Tymon as a weak link so bed with a smile tonight.
RIP Deano

We did to them what we usually happens to us. By half time, we'd had a total of 2 touches in their box and scored with both. Nice to be clinical for a change.

But hope we play better Saturday.

Over the last few seasons I have become heartily sick of winning every statistic about so many matches except the only statistic that really matters - the scoreline.

Suck on that Derby. You can stick your Xg where the sun doesn't shine along with attempts on goal, on target, corners etc etc etc.

I agree we were robbed at Burnley but Leeds were toying with us. Kept us at arms length for a lot of the game and were very comfortable- I thought it was a miracle we got our third before they got their fourth and I knew in my gut they would come back hard at us - which they did of course a minute later and scored.

We seem to be very physically weak compared with teams like Leeds or even Derby who though lack of composure missed the chances they had to equalize . I’m not convince our players are as fit as they should be

2 fantastic goals that deserve to win any game. I'm Vipos biggest critic, but fair doos to the lad, seemed to be bit of anger in that shot.
Again tho, looking leggy at the end of games. Excellent win, now for tge bottom of the league visit the weekend. We all know how it ends !
I’m not convinced any of them are proper match fit (Franco and Cullen aside). If you’re not fully fit your concentration goes and with all the missed passes in the latter stages of the game. If the new regime needs to do anything it’s to assemble a side like a hybrid of Brendan’s promotion side and coopers side - great to watch, physically strong as hard as nails.
We looked weak last night

We play 4 of the bottom 5 before the half way mark, plus Luton who are also down the arse end, Only Sundo to play from above us. It will be a statement of some kind, whichever way it goes.

Not sure about us looking weak last night

We held out for the win against a team who have only lost once at home in the league all season. When you consider the effort put in against Leeds on Sunday, I'd say last night we looked pretty resilient under pressure.

Watched it after the match. Good wasn't it!
I kept the match on - of course. Nice to see a different director’s cut ending!

Watched Shetland earlier. Good effort by the Shetland tourist Board 🤣

Take it for what is was - a lucky away win in the end, even though it should have been a lot more comfortable having been 2 up in the first 15 mins!!

Considering their home record is solid, scoring for 25 consecutive games and their set piece record that’s a good win for us in the end, home many times have we battered teams and got nothing so it’s a nice change.

Onto Saturday now and let’s give bottom of the league a pumping.

Not sure the amount of people who just assume we are expected to walk into any game in this league and win immediately . Were we good last night? Absolutely not but 3 points is 3 points with the small squad we currently have and the time of year where fixtures come thick and fast.

That Vipotnik goal was like a fking canonball. Ive watched it twenty times already. There was a lot of tension behind that shot. KABOOM.
