Season 24/25 | The Official Match Thread | Swansea City 2 Sunderland 3 | The EFL Championship

win this one and we will go on a run and finish 5th.

we are long overdue a proper run of scintillation - last time was when russ won all those games to end his time here - we had a goalscorer then mind

Eom and Harris tucking in as both favour that with Josh X2 overlapping and making most crosses. Big lack of goals from strikers so goalscoring 9 is still the space in team that needs to be filled.
The striker position is still a problem granted, but we could try playing to Vipotnik's strengths instead of playing around him, then expecting him to be in the right position all the time. His goal the other night proved there is striker there.

Agree completely, the fact is that we simply haven't played to his strengths. Expecting him to be involved in the build up and then conjure chances from nothing in the same way as Piroe did is simply not his game.

Getting the ball to his feet in or around the edge of the box is when he will come alive. His goal the other week with one touch to set it and then firing a cannon into the net before the keeper could move shows what his kind of game is.

Cullen in the hole has proved to be a big success, now its the flanks that need addressing. The players that we have are good but not being played in the right positions, Ronald always looks his best playing on the left where he can cut inside and either take a shot or play in Tymon overlapping down the left to put in a cross.

Bianchini in his first appearances for us played on the right and he showed his pace and ability to curl in fantastic crosses between the defenders and the goalkeeper but we have not utilized him in that way since.

And therein lies the issue. Vipo doesn't inspire to get us there so it'll be a struggle.

A big chance to make a statement that our fabulous club is right back up there
It's another potential day of destiny.

More I think bout this game, more exciting it's getting. Can we win and propel towards the play offs, or just another false dawn.?
Questions on Mackems current form, ours is good, but can we actually beat a top 6 side at home. Both will go for it.
Can't wait.

Sunderland have been riding the wave since promotion and have been able to put a run of performances together which in turn breeds confidence and more performances.

Ultimately the only thing in the Championship that truly separates most sides from mid table obscurity and play off chasers is the ability to consistently put performances and results together. We are on the cusp of that right now with 2 wins and 2 draws in our last four performances, but as you said getting results against other play off chasers would be critical and something we haven't yet been able to do.

To be anywhere near the playoffs at the end of the season we have to be putting the likes of Luton and Portsmouth away, which we failed to do, mid table still for me...

They have a lot of key players out injured. We have to be clinical with our chances today

A big part of that is lack of composure and confidence in the final third that would usually come from getting a run of positive results.

Sunderland are not a better side than us in my opinion, its just the winning mentality of getting promoted has given them a very confident start and they were able to translate that confidence into wins.

How often in the past few years alone has a side from League 1 been promoted and gone on to have a very strong season in the Championship if not go all the way and get promoted that same season?

That Pompey result was put in context by Derby last night. We were bloody unlucky not to wallop them in the end but if you play like lumps of turd and give away 2 goals it makes it harder.

? They weren’t promoted last year.

Sunderland finished last season two places and 7pts behind us 🫤
