• Thank you very much | Diolch yn fawr

All at JackArmy.net would like to thank everyone who has played a part on this site over the past 25 years whether that is through writing, contributing, moderating, posting or just visting and reading.

Without any of you the work that has gone into the site would have been pointless and we will always be proud that we built, generated and managed a community that was such a big part of the Swansea City supporting life for so long.

It has been a pleasure to bring to you the site for so long but the time is now right to turn the lights out for the last time but we do it both with a heavy heart and a sense of pride driven by the so many messages received since we announced the closure.

The site will remain here for a period until we archive and mothball it for the last time later this summer but all aspects are in a read only format.

Thank you though for all the memories

    Phil Sumbler

I’m far more gutted about this news than I have any right to be about “some bloke” I never met.

I shed a tear or two this afternoon when I heard, not sure why and it took me by surprise when I did it

Never seen a player able to influence any single game so much

When SSN interviewed Gatting I think he’d shed a few tears just before too

I think those of us that are mid 40's and a bit older remember him coming through.
Whilst a 16 year old I remember the summer of 1993 was full of lads in local parks trying to spin the ball and bowl the " flipper". That is how much he shook the game up.
This was an era before internet, Xbox etc ......we actually went outside and stayed outside.

I will admit I had no time for Warne and his "tabloid exploits" / "Hollywood lifestyle" BUT when he was playing he was incredible PLUS as a pundit on Sky the way he explained techniques and mental approaches to the game were to me fascinating.
The game has lost an all time great.

Glamorgan Cricket 🏏 (@GlamCricket) Tweeted: Cricket has lost a true genius who inspired millions to take up the game

We were incredibly fortunate to see Shane grace the field at Sophia Gardens

Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this difficult time

RIP Shane https://t.co/M1hT0PNheC https://twitter.com/GlamCricket/status/1499754105295839232?s=20&t=h8TQx1sVTz2orebV5TZmZQ

I'm sure that's the Gnoll where he is signing autographs in 1993.

Absolutely gutting news.
The greatest bowler of them all.

One of the few people who transcended sport.

I watched "The Ball of the Century" as it happened on the telly. Had seen nothing like it before. A tremendous player and based on the outpouring of grief from basically every quarter a thoroughly nice bloke too.

52 is no age at all.

Even though I'm not a big cricket fan, you could see the quality he had when playing, sensational technique and unbelievable spin

I felt the same on hearing the news at around half 3, shockingly sad news, a true Icon of a Sportsman and a Man.

Floored yesterday when I heard this, what a shock one of the greatest a legend all round, proper lad, RIP, I to rememeber being sat in front of the tv when he trotted up and bowled that first ball to Gatts, wow

He could make a cricket ball talk, the red ball at least. Decent batter as well when the mood took him, very sad loss.
