here we are the players are not good enough
this has been used as an excuse many times for Martinball not working.....does he really believe he would find sufficient players in one team in Lg1 or the Championship to play that way.....and his supporters claim the issue is the players he has cannot play his style a good manager would try to play to the strengths of their players not make players play against instincts

I’m off to the Big Top, after a post like that I’ll save you a nose and a pair of shoes..ok

As I said, a nose and shoes awaits you.

So we finished 15th last season, were 15th before this game… and after a win due to the opposition having 10 men for 72+ minutes, people have to say they were wrong?

I thought I had read it all over the years.

A win after the oppo having 10 men and us adopting entirely the wrong tactics afterwards until getting a goal through an incredible piece of individual skill and then adopting the wrong tactics and giving 10 men the initiative. then getting a piece of amazing luck to regain the lead and finally adopting the right tactics!

11 vs 11, we'd never have won that game playing like that.

We have a team that is capable of play offs, we have a manager that is capable of 15th. Let's hope the quality of the team compensates for the ineptitude of the manager.

Fair play you should get a job reading tea leaves and tarot cards, Mystic Monmouth, what you reckon it’s got a certain ring to it don’t you agree.

Matchday threads are all about reacting to what's happening in the moment, as I presume the majority of people posting are watching a stream or listening to radio commentary. When we're playing well and winning, the general thrust of posts is that we're the best team in the world. When we're struggling, well I imagine you can work it out.

The nature of the discussion means people are going to sometimes look silly once the 90 minutes are up, there's no shame in that. If we're struggling to score against 10 men, or concede and equaliser against 10 men, then clearly there's going to be people unhappy in that moment.

ECB is right that avoiding matchday threads until after the game is over is the funniest way to read them.

Vetchonian and The Good Doctor (plus others) are right that you're jumping the gun here. A third win in eleven games is hardly the time to extol the virtues of the manager. Still, you've had plenty of bites though, including me, so job done I guess?

Finally, the irony of Vetchonian calling someone out for 'hero worship' of a manager is delicious...

I guess that is a reference to my defence of Cooper.....it wasnt and isnt hero worship just the fact I was fed up with the inconsistency ....during Coopers reign when as some of his previous critics now point out on here he took us to the playoffs twice including the final in his second season......many posters criticised Cooper 's football despite it delivering results yet when during the early days of Martins's reign many were posting how great he was yet the football was dull backwards and forwards passing and nil nil draws or defeats and those of us who criticised were "attacked" it was during those times I "defended" Cooper or used him as a benchmark.Hero no I guess if there were any managers who I would put in that category they would be Harry Griff and Tosh......grateful to Roberto Brendan and Laudrup but Harry did so much for us and Tosh took us form the depths to the top of the pile and all in a small space of time

Aye, these 'look at me, I was right' types with their 20:20 hindsight never give a real time view in case they might be wrong. Had we gone on to lose or draw that game yesterday (just as likely after conceding that stupid equaliser) as scoring a fortunate second, none of them would be seen shouting the odds. When we win they are then "superfans". I guess it makes thenm feel more adequate so we provide a social service on the match thread. I'll keep calling it as I see it in real time, irrespective of the final outcome.

Well said.

Well said Mon

There is no harm in posting during the game I've done the same even from a game especially during a borefest served up by MArtinball....in fact its no different to what happens at a game we all sit there and comment as the games ebbs and flows....sometimes moaning sometimes full of praise depending on how the game is going.

One of the reasons we love football is the roller coaster ride of emotions during the game.
People wear their heart on their sleeve and post the way they're thinking at any moment in time. We've all been made mugs of by the swings and roundabouts of a football match. It's nothing to be ashamed of and we don't need some smart Alec trying to score points off fellow Jack Army members.

Precisely, and anyone who disagrees with this should go back and have a look at the Swans Palace match day thread of November 2016. The pendulum that day swung many, many times.
