West Brom manager Slaven Bilic has been sacked after 18 months in charge, with the club 19th in the Premier League.

The Baggies have gathered seven points from 13 league games, with eight defeats, though they earned a surprise 1-1 draw at Manchester City on Tuesday.

Assistant coaches Dean Racunica and Danilo Butorovic also depart, as does first-team coach Julian Dicks.

A club statement thanked Bilic and his coaching staff "for their efforts in achieving promotion last season".

Bilic, 52, signed a two-year contract when he took over at the The Hawthorns in June 2019, replacing Darren Moore.

He guided Albion to promotion on the final day of last season, as they finished second in the Championship.

But they have won only one Premier League match this season, beating bottom club Sheffield United 1-0 on 28 November.

It emerged after the draw at Manchester City that West Brom were considering whether to sack Bilic.

Tuesday's match was the Croat's 100th Premier League game as a manager. He led West Ham from June 2015 to November 2017, taking the club into a Europe as they finished seventh in his final full season, recording their highest placing since 2002.

Prior to that, he had led Croatia to two European Championships, with a quarter-final appearance in 2008 coming after they had knocked England out in the qualifiers.

He has also had spells in charge of Hajduk Split, Lokomotiv Moscow, Besiktas and Al-Ittihad.

Bilic was dismissed on Wednesday despite his side earning a 1-1 draw at Manchester City on Tuesday night.

"Albion would like to thank Slaven and his coaching staff for their efforts in achieving promotion last season and wishes them all well in the future," read a club statement.

Negotiations are ongoing between West Brom and Allardyce but the 66-year-old is expected to be appointed as Bilic's successor ahead of Sunday's match against local rivals Aston Villa.

It is set to be his first managerial role since being sacked by Everton in 2018.

For them it’s all about staying within the riches of the Premier League and Big Sam will offer them a good chance of that. The football might be turgid but I guess it’s not good in the first placed which ties in with their league position. I would hazard a guess that Baggies fans are inwardly pleased about the Allardyce rumour.

Sadly this is very spot on. For many football fans, its about staying in the league at all costs and if you can do that with a dinosaur like Allardyce in control then you will take the appointment.

In the same way teams keep appointing Warnock to try and get them out of the Championship.

Football really is a mess, so far removed from the game I enjoyed 10-15 years back

Allardyce? Bloody hell. Remember when West Brom were a well-run club and accepted the possibility of relegation as long as they used it to strengthen the club? Whether Allardyce keeps them up or not, his record shows he won't be there by the end of next season.

New TV deal after new TV deal have changed the position of the goalposts in this respect.

We’d be the same, terrible for sacking managers. Clubs like us, WBA, Watford, B’mouth, etc might do well to accept where we are in the hierarchy, suck up relegation and stick with a manager proven to take a club up.

You would ask as a manager whats the point of taking a team up who would no doubt struggle in the top league. When your likely to face the sack in a few months time. Don't mind WBA but hope they fail now.
