Wonder what, if any, punishment they’ll get for this and if it snowballs into a bigger investigation.

I’m leaning towards it being a mountain out of a molehill, but if other clubs smell blood they’ll go for the kill; especially if, as has been claimed, this is something they’ve been suspected of doing a lot recently.

Last time a team was found guilty of this they were fined 200k (Leeds seven years ago)
That was before they tightened up the rules to expressly forbid this

As a points deduction or fine is pointless at this stage if I was the EFL I would penalize Southampton with a 2 goal handicap for the playoff match.

I have my doubts they'll do anything that could affect the playoffs for fear of the legal ramifications. I'd guess it would be a much bigger fine or maybe a small points deduction for next season/next time they're in the Championship if they win the playoffs.

None of which will do anything to help the team they've (allegedly) spied on of course. A bit like Downes getting banned when he should have been sent off against us, which did nothing to help us.

Seems incredible Saints would risk spy gate ,
Having played them twice everygame is there to watch .
Not a one off game appears crazy .
I would expect a subststancial fine for Southampton .

Horrible club they are , didn't they kick up a fuss when staying in the Marriot hotel prior to playing us the year we got relegated. Hope anyone except them get promoted.

It'll be more than a fine if they are found guilty. Not out of the realms of possibility that they get disqualified from the play-offs. All depends how much of this was going on, when it started, who know about it etc. I find it hard to believe they just started doing it for the play-off game.

If they win tonight then there is every chance that Southampton get disqualified from the playoffs anyway
If they lose then I wouldn't be surprised to see the EFL slap them with a points penalty for next season

I read that they're asking for more time to respond to the charges.
They're hoping for no decision until after the play off final. The EFL need to get a grip and decide very soon otherwise the final will be a weird event with no one sure of what's happening.
Assuming Southampton are in it of course.

In fairness its an independent entity that does the hearing and the EFL have asked them to expedite it so that it is before the playoff final so its not in their hands
