What a mess

Last time their fans saw them play, they were in L1, but the next time they watch them, they will be in non-league!

Seems like yesterday they were down here celebrating a title win on the pitch (I think it was them?)

They certainly were, though they are not celebrating now. Think Freddie Eastwood was playing for them and Mark Gower played for them for a fair while if I remember. Also so a game at the Vetch where they actually scored against us with only 8 men on the pitch , and won the game as well.

Southend beat us with 8 men in 2003/04. Mark Gower scored, and was one of three Southend players sent off.

It definitely was Southend, there's a video of it on YouTube.

Alan Waddle scored his first ever hat trick against Southend down the Vetch in 1979, and we won 3-2. This was just 2 weeks before the promotion winning game against Chesterfield.

Swans 2-2 draw with them when Fallon and Eastwood scored two each is one of the best games to be played at Liberty.

Eastwood was a great striker at that level, I can remember that 2-2 game at the Liberty vividly.

They were clapped by the majority of the crowd at the end as they were the league champions which felt very odd at the time, strange now that us Brentford and Barnsley are again in the playoffs. We were unbeaten against Barnsley that season too until the final.
