One of the names in the frame according to Tom Coleman. Ex Man United head of scouting I think. Don’t know if he has any experience as a DoF though.

Can’t read the article because of the paywall, journalism I guess.

Brown is one of several candidates believed to be in the frame to take over
Steve Brown is one of the candidates in the frame to take the role of sporting director at Swansea City, sources have told WalesOnline.

Brown has been looking to get back into football since leaving his role as director of scouting at Manchester United, and is believed to have caught the eye of the Swans hierarchy as they look to remould their recruitment structure ahead of the new season.

After first joining the club in 2016, Brown was relieved of his duties in April last year as part of a second wave of redundancies under minority owner Sir Jim Radcliffe.

He was at the heart of recruitment efforts at the club, particularly under Erik ten Haag, and was reportedly central to the launch of Project Bethlehem, the codename for United’s huge recruitment rebuild.

According to The Athletic, he was also a key figure in setting up TrackerMan, the club’s bespoke centralised database of hundreds of players using scouting reports and data.

Brown actually started his career at Cardiff City, where he served as a first-team analyst for one year before departing in 2005, and went on to hold similar roles at Birmingham City and Reading.

He joined Everton in 2008, and would eventually go on to become the club's scouting and recruitment manager.

Sources have indicated Brown isn't the only name in the mix to take the role at Swansea, but the club are understood to be closing in on a decision.

The club are effectively looking to fill the void left by outgoing head of recruitment Adam Worth, who left his post earlier this month.

Worth had served as head of recruitment following the departure of previous director of football Richard Montague, having previously joined as the club's global head of analytics in October 2024.

Despite his departure, it's understood a number of transfer targets have already been identified ahead of the summer.

Many are likely to come from more domestic markets, with Swansea previously casting their eye abroad for new recruits.

Barnsley's Reyes Cleary is among the players they admire, but it remains to be seen whether the new man coming in will follow through on those plans.

Head coach Vitor Matos may well have his own ideas on what is needed within his squad over the coming weeks, but he says the arrival of a new sporting director will be beneficial for the structure of the club.

The article also mentions a focus on more domestic recruits this summer. It especially names Reyes Cleary as one. A winger from Barnsley.

That would be a smart move IMO. I don't think the players we've brought in from abroad are lacking in quality, but the hustle and sheer competitiveness of British football and the Championship in particular can take some adjustment time.

Which frustrates me a little as the majority are internationals

Don’t hate the idea of shopping in more domestic markets but would still like us to cast our net further afield. A good balance would be nice. Will be interesting to see if he still has access to that database or if it belongs to Man United exclusively now.

I am not sure that it matters which country players come from as much as the age profile.
Young british players also take time to get used to the toughest league in world football.
Further - I am not for signing older players just so they hit the ground running. Our model (as currently operating) is perfect. We needto find players with high ceilings that will hit their prime with us and create saleable assets.

I think there's a danger of being in a perpetual state of 'This time next year, we'll be millionaires, Rodders' when you're always buying future potential. I'm fine with us signing one or two seasoned pros if it helps us get over the hump into being a consistent top 10 team again. Easier said than done, of course.

Cameron Burgess is very seasoned and often roasted.

A few more Ethan Galbraith like signings (in age, quality, cost, potential sale value) all over the pitch would do nicely. Be nice if it was that easy.
