I watch question time every week for years now, and this question has been asked frequently, yet every answer is manifesto, and a HUGE pledge to tackle this issue, and that the Labour/Tory are failing the country, we will etc..every f*cking week

If, as seems to be confirmed by the article in the OP, this is Home Office issue it’s nowt to do with Drakeford or the Welsh government.

I’m no expert on how this works but my understanding is that the government identifies a site, a hotel or whatever it is but the government has no power to force that establishment into essentially closing to house asylum seekers. They pay them to do so. It’s the hotel owner’s decision. They’ve basically decided that it’s worth more cash to them to do this and lay off their staff than it would to trade as normal. Money talks.

It appears that the hotel is not in local ownership but rather part of a larger national or international group. It’s a no brainier fir them, scandalous as it is.

Yes, London based I believe. No vested interest in the local community. Purely a financial decision.

And of course asylum seekers should be allowed to work. Our economy badly needs more skilled and unskilled workers.

So my understanding of this awful decision is , profits over local jobs , Llanelli workers , service and catering staff etc . out .

Having strong links to Turkland for many years through work . Stradey Park Hotel and Spa in Furnace , the owners of the site can now enjoy their backhanders and future lucrative contracts , local workforce redundant , whatever .

To pick up on a comment made earlier I really thought this Hotel was locally owned , not a chain .

Good PR job to to highlight the Llanelli / Stradey Park link whilst having no idea of the history , their directors are already rubbing their grubby hands and awaiting Home Office easy cash .

According to reports 95 people in already deprived area booted out of a wage , a terrible decision has been made .

Before we send them down the mines, make sure the homeless in this country get first dibs on any pathway, because the homeless are usually British, and their families have rightly put into the system for centuries, it's only fair, you've got asylum seekers getting 40 quid a week, a meal and bed, yet thousands are rough sleeping and getting no support.. it's crazy, pay into a system and get sod all, not pay in the system and get a warm bed, bit of grub and 40 notes a week for years and free NHS.. system is totally stupid

Even the best efforts of the twenty or so placard holders were never going to change the minds of the hotel ownership group who only had eyes for cash. As rightly pointed out, this has absolutely nothing to do with Welsh politics and the decision makers up the 'diff. It was a nice hotel too; we had our wedding reception there and the christening parties for both of our kids were held in the roundhouse; also know a few staff one of who is the wife of someone who works for me.

Massive sh1t sandwich and the staff / local residents are about to have a bite. My time in Llanelli is limited these days, but I can't help but feel sorry about the whole affair.

Where this country falls down is the vetting procedures. You cant get into Oz unless you can prove your worth....financially/skillwise and your background. I bet these people coming in dont pass any of these things. What's happening at Stradey is not a one off, we are letting god knows who in with God knows what background. And anyone who supports that ethic needs a serious look at themselves.
