Summer Transfer Window

Looks like a solid signing, and probably as good as we could reasonably expect on a free. I assume he's a replacement for Darling. His stats are solid if unspectacular. Strong in duels and aerial duels, but doesn't tackle an awful lot. Pass accuracy a bit low for my liking, but my overall feeling is positive, albeit not got the juices flowing. One big positive is that it may free up some dosh to bring in younger, exciting prospects elsewhere in the team. A good DM and right back would be high on my agenda, with Galbraith offering strong competition in both areas.

I can’t remember a player we have signed for ages that come with such glowing reference from their departing teams fans.

Those Ipswich fans who watch him week in week out saying he’s a gem. Means so much more than stats mate.

Most saying that he was their best CB, even in the Prem last year. Some glowing references.

Yes, that's what I've seen. Pretty much all disappointed to see him leave. I've seen only one neutral response. That's a good sign. Many are surprised he's joined us, apparently there was talk of him joining Valencia. It's amazing how quickly fans can gain an inflated sense of their team's relative importance.

Been reading Ipswich forums, they're a funny lot. It appears they're a much bigger club than us, some can't fathom why he went to such a smaller team and we don't have a pot to piss in apparently.

Weren't they a League One club two years ago? Did we play them in our 7 years in the Premier League?

I didn't realise Ipswich was twinned with Cardiff...

Putting that sense of superiority to one side the near universal disappointment at his departure can't be a bad thing. It's a signing I'm warming to.

Not as good a passer as Darling, but clearly a more consistent and robust defender. Santos has a very similar profile, so there's clearly a slight shift away from a possession led approach to a more pragmatic one. I have some reservations about that, but I'm cautiously optimistic that at the very least we will be a more enjoyable watch, with an increased tempo and emphasis on dribbling.

If Darling does leave, as seems certain, we will probably need a 4th choice centre back who can also cover Tymon at left back. Probably an exciting up-and-coming youngster from a minor league who has decent experience in the men's game.
