It sounds like we have aimed a little too high for the striker and not quite getting our man. Hopefully we can still sign someone better than we have but closer to the end of the window we get, the harder it will get as no-one will want to lose a player they don't have time to replace.
And it should be applauded that we aimed higher but there should have been fall back options, options that were more realistic.
Still plenty out there.
Erabi and Oluwaseyi still an options.

If we miss out on all our targets, better to save the money for January/next summer than spend good money on someone they don't think is good enough. We'll all be quick to complain if we spend money on a fall back option and they flop.

Question. Would you have passed on Yalcouye and Stamenic (and made do with Fulton and Cooper), if the money was otherwise spent bringing in a marquee striker?
No from me.
A dynamic midfield and wing was what we were crying out for.
Cullen and Vip can score goals if given the chance. I’d obviously like a Piroe/Michu/Bony but we’ve been stuck in a doom loop of static play for too long.

Fair point but surely it would have to be asked why we missed out on all our options and why we didn't have further options.
Fail to prepare, prepare to fail.

We could easily spend on target no 1 and he could just as easily fail.

If spending any money on someone becomes a bigger risk by the day, surely a loan becomes a more viable option when our targets seem to be drying up? I know they don't come free but at least it would be someone we wouldn't end up being stuck with if/when we get someone with the right profile at the right price, maybe in January.

I think we definitely will have other options still, Sheehan said we’ll be prepared to go with what we have, he didn’t say that was definitely going to happen.

The ambition though, is definitely a double-edged sword. Seems to have paid off with most of our other targets but it was always going to be the most difficult at striker.

Sheehan just played a straight bat and rightly put praise on players who were here and now.

Glad the reporter asked him about his comments on the weekend, he seemed to just pass it off quite easily, too easily maybe. Sheehan has kept quite non committal with linked players so was strange to come out with the phrase we were close to one.

Agree we have spent a good wedge, but we also got 4.5m for Grimes in January that was not really invested until now. That can offset against 1/2 of the signings made alone. Spreading deals over a long period will also help, as well as ultimately selling a star man or two down the line.

The only issue is if the majority of players bought end up being poor at this level, then it means no takers and a significant drop in transfer activity in windows to come as we continue to pay off fees without offloading anyone. Fingers crossed eh
Galbraith alone is a massive upgrade on Grimes. Inoussa an upgrade on Eom and Burgess looks to be un upgrade on Darling and potential captaincy material.
Widdell showing good signs and hopefully Stamenic will turn out to be a real bruiser at 6.

They are mostly young and will definitely have resale value.

What more do you want?

Think we need to hold fire for five minutes before we decide that Inoussa is an upgrade on Eom.

Eom was easily one of our most in form players towards the end of last season and hasn't had much of a pre-season due to injury which naturally puts him a few weeks behind the rest in terms of sharpness.

I expect a lot more from him going forward.

I agree on all this, but not so much Eom one. I agree with Dr Winston on that one. Not saying he won't be a player, but I don't see him as a player bought to replace Eom.
