When you consider that two of those transfers alone add up to almost 100m euros (Gylfi to Everton and Bony to Man City) it says a lot about how we rarely got top dollar for our players, especially before and after Birch's stewardship. The periods outside of their stewardship saw many players either run down their contracts and leave for free or sold for whatever the old owners could get to line their pockets.

Signings on unsaleable contracts were also a significant problem and forced our hands in a number of circumstances to sanction sales of players for fees we would never otherwise consider just to keep the lights on. In this respect Huw carries a significant amount of blame, the likes of Bony and Ayew not having relegation clauses in their salaries crippled us for almost a decade and you could argue that only now are we starting to show signs of recovery.

Just goes to show how badly run we have been since 2015 really. Without the stupid, crippling wages we gave to several players whilst in the PL, the kind of money we raked in on sales should have been enough to allow us not to run the club on vapours, as ended up happening.

We may not have done a Reading or a Sheffield Wednesday and for that we should always be thankful, but that's still not to detract from how poorly Jenkins and then the Chuckle Brothers ran things.

You're absolutely right so I've edited your quote to make us all feel better.
