Swansea.com to be the new stadium sponsor?

Also, if it’s true that the Liberty sponsorship ended in 2015 and we’ve been displaying their name on the stadium for nothing, that really is scandalous. Free sponsorship? Never heard of anything like it, excluding charities...

https://swansea.com/
Not a mm apologist and reckon he’s got a ‘kin good deal there but I welcome anything that promotes our city and doesn’t involve the promotion of gambling.

Can't see anyone ever really saying "going down the swansea.com stadium today?"

Now if they dropped the .com and called it the Swansea Stadium then it sounds better

what on earth has happened to football? what an absolute joke

Personally I don't tend to say the stadium name too often. I'd usually say something like "I'm going down to see the Swans / the football / the match". It's not like the people I'm talking to don't know where they're playing. Where the fack do they think they're playing their home matches, down St Helens? On the bleeding beach?

I always felt that the liberty name was kept to entice Americans... the timing fits that of when they stopped paying

It’s always been ‘I’m going down the Liberty’ for me.

I’m not wedded to it, but thought Liberty Stadium worked well because it stands on its own irrespective of the company. I reckon a lot of people aren’t even aware of Liberty Properties. This new name is obviously corporately crap though - just like the Bet365 Stadium and other soulless names.

Well this is going to be a bit of a problem for me, only last week I said to Mrs Mute that I was off to the Vetch for the friendly against Southampton! 🙄 I’m not even used to calling it The Liberty yet.
It’s an age thing. 😵‍💫

The Vetch, the old lady, not an ageing thing at all 🖤🤍

“Martin was keen to conclude new deals almost as soon as he took charge at the Swansea.com stadium last week and has already bought in Jamie Paterson who repaid that move with a goal in the 2-1 defeat at Blackburn on Saturday”
Did a bit of proofreading for you Mr Sumbler. No need to thank me.

I read that as Martin Morgan for a second and my heart sank

It's got quite a ring to it? No?

On a side note I seem to remember many people saying that ‘The Liberty stadium’ sounded really naff when we first moved there.

Not that I’m defending Swansea.com. That sounds really crap. It’s a shame that a deal couldn’t have been done with Liberty to keep their name on the stadium and call it ‘The Swansea.com Liberty stadium’ or something like that.

Not a fan of stadium names being totally sold to companies in general - there should be a name for a stadium with the sponsor’s name attached to it.

It did and the name of "White Rock" was popular. But at the same time back then it was easier to attach to a new name largely because the previous name hadn't been in use for very long. After 16 years the new stadium sponsor will struggle to ever get people to talk about it.

Bolton I seem to remember had a similar problem when the Reebok changed to the Macron (was there anything in between?) and are we playing at the Mad Stad tonight or the Select Car Leasing Stadium

I guess at the end of it it's a name but a seven figure sum over 10 years of which promotion to the Premier League could bring worlwide exposure again is probably not a hugely brilliant deal but then again not sure there is much money in stadium naming rights anyway.

The big failure here is that of the commercial team at the time failing to secure a sponsor in our Premier League days where that worldwide exposure was already there. Great work both pre and post sale by those involved - not.

When you take everything out of the equation and get down to the basics the naming has been down to stadium local rugby contact and now stadium local football contact.

All dressed up in a "keeping it local" package ;)
