Was just reading an article about how Motherwell once won the Copa Del Rey (or a variation of it) and it mentions that they were invited along with Swansea City. They apparently beat us in the Semi Final and went on to beat Real Madrid in the final. Not sure how accurate it is but thought it was a pretty cool story.

Sounds more like someone's dream than reality 😂. When was this supposed to have happened?

It's a hazy memory, but wasn't there a pre-season tournament in Spain involving us and say 3 other teams?

It was a pre-season tournament in 1927 containing four teams (Swans, Motherwell, Real Madrid, Real Union), I don't think there's much strength to the argument that it was for the Copa Del Rey.

The Copa Del Rey winners were in the tournament, but it didn't resemble anything like the tournament at the time. It's much more akin to modern day pre-season tournaments like the Emirates Cup. It's still a bit of history though to play out there at that time.

The Swans were the first side in Wales to leave Britain to play games against foreign teams, when they went on tour to Denmark in 1923.

They played in 3 matches, winning 2 and losing 1.

They were so popular, they were invited back the following season.

That makes more sense. It threw me when the OP said Swansea City so I assumed it was a lot more recent than that and that I should have remembered it. 😂

Whether it's a thing of lore or totally made up, apparently we beat RM and in honour of SCFC this is why they play in all white............

I'm not sure that is true, Real Madrid have worn white since their inception and you can see photographs of their sides in the 1900's.

I have vague memories of some four team tournament with my memory telling me it was in Scotland.

I apologise, but I’m not old enough to remember us as Swansea Town 😉
