• Thank you very much | Diolch yn fawr

All at JackArmy.net would like to thank everyone who has played a part on this site over the past 25 years whether that is through writing, contributing, moderating, posting or just visting and reading.

Without any of you the work that has gone into the site would have been pointless and we will always be proud that we built, generated and managed a community that was such a big part of the Swansea City supporting life for so long.

It has been a pleasure to bring to you the site for so long but the time is now right to turn the lights out for the last time but we do it both with a heavy heart and a sense of pride driven by the so many messages received since we announced the closure.

The site will remain here for a period until we archive and mothball it for the last time later this summer but all aspects are in a read only format.

Thank you though for all the memories

    Phil Sumbler

Awful to see those girls that have been abused and mistreated on the news.
What the hell is wrong with people?

Thought so. Horrible piece of s**t is an excellent description.

Fair play mind, he decided to slam me by the throat into the climbing bars on the wall of the gym for nutmeging him, (it was a total fluke by the way), when he let go he called me "a cocky little pŕick" and said "I played for Merthyr! Don't forget it!!!
I was about 10 mind...
Call it a life lesson 😃

Gruesome bloke. Some of the things he did would be abuse now. That applises to a lot of them in those days mind.

Must be something about that first name that makes you a right plum.

You’re right. Many of the actions of Penlan teachers (and I daresay others in similar schools) back then would have landed some of them in hot water these days. And on some kind of register in some cases.

I got talking to a guy down the Indian a few Sunday’s ago and his father was a teacher in the comprehensive I went to.
He said to me “if my father was a teacher today he’d be arrested.”

Passed my 11 + exam , which at the time was the future course for education , bragging rights then .

I was chuffed ,and my family proud of a council house boy getting a place at one of the most prestigious Boys Grammar Schools in the area , Gowerton .

From the outset , a headmaster there , who loved mentioning he was a Cambridge Blue and took delight In looking down on any pupil who was not interested in rugby , myself included , was very keen to get the bamboo cane out , flex it before giving the victim some whacks over the palm of the hand , i was one of them .

Keep in touch with a good old mate , both of us rebels then , we still laugh about the cane which we both recieved after standing in line outside his study for our punishment .

Looking back at them days it does make you think .
