Horrific indeed and I can completely understand the calls for the death penalty in a case like this.

However, I am fundamentally opposed to the death penalty and in my opinion I feel a whole life term where the convicted felon wakes every morning for decades in fear of what his fellow prisoners may do to him has to be a far worse punishment than the hangman's noose.

I recall watching the TV drama Time with Sean Bean. Scared the living daylights out of me.
