The Grape and Olive

It's gone mate.👍
Edit AFAIK.

Massive shame, it was very good when it first opened, but to many changes has ruined it, we held my eldest's 18th there, well we had a gathering on a couple of tables for food, cracking food.
My Dad wouldn't go though because he had a phobia about lifts :(

Great shame Indeed. My trips back to Swansea never seemed complete without a beer up there. Any time of year, the views were amazing. I could never understand why it was so under used. Really hope it reopens soon.

They stopped people just going up for a pint or a coffee, meaning if you wanted to up there you had to have a meal, can understand as to why they made that decision, but I think the food quality dipped that along with Covid might have killed it,

Food and service was very ordinary when I took my dad there, and he died in 2019, so a while ago. I think they relied on the views. If they then dissuaded people from just calling in for the views (only sensible if it’s really taking up table space that is causing more lucrative business to be turned away) then they weren’t really making the best of the asset maybe. Maybe I’d is just covid and beyond, but all the gaffes up here are ridiculously full and whacking up their prices.

It is a shame, just never really seemed to take off as it should, been up there many times for a coffee etc, never had food there. Not sure what's going to happen to it now.

My eldest is 30 in a few months, but it was pretty good back when he was 18, we went there a few times after and it was fine, but we mostly called up for just a coffee or a few beers, not sure when they stopped just serving just drinks/cakes etc, but it must be over 6 to 8 yrs I expect.

I never had a problem calling in for just beer (although one had to move to the other ?east? side of the restaurant to drink it).

I went there the night before my wedding. Reserved two tables for everyone, arrived and they said "We've put some of you on table 4 over here and the rest of you way over there on table 10". The geniuses. 🤐

They did that first and then after that you had to be going there for food, they had a receptionist in the foyer stopping you just going up, we tried a few times, that rule may have been relaxed through the week though.

That's madness.

I wonder if that policy was short-lived (I dunno, like. I wasn't a regular) as I last went up last summer (Saturday lunchtime) and had no problem.

I dunno in fairness, I heard on Grapevine that you couldn't go up there unless you was gonna have food, but give it benefit of the doubt and called in there and got turned away, think Mrs and I tried at least twice.

Pretty sure the mrs and I went for a coffee there, 4 or 5 years ago, but you could be right, I've got a memory like a sieve.👍

Spoke to her indoors about it just now and she said that we went there a few times and got turned away by a youngish lad and an older lady.
