The hundred

Well yes it was almos a rhetorical question. Anyway as I said, anything that brings in the crowds and TV viewers has to be good for the game and this has done both, so far at least. But as Monny said, this isn’t really attracting an audience that wouldn’t have already been there. I can’t imagine we’re going to see a Hundred World Cup any time soon mind.

Personally I think it’s a far more accessible version of the game. It’s simplified and I think they’ve got a good chance of attracting new fans to cricket

I don’t see how it’s more accessible to be honest. If anything the rules (five or ten balls per “over”, change ends every five or ten balls and some nonsense about the non striker still being the non striker after the guy at the other end is caught only) are far more complex to any newbies. And the on screen graphics need tweaking. They’re almost indecipherable at the moment.

Agree about the non striker thing. The graphics are also awful but I can see what they’re doing with the one teams stats one side and the other teams the other.

I’ve not noticed them making a big deal of the overs. Presumably that’s because they’re trying to make it about the balls rather than overs which takes a complication out of it.

It’s never going to capture the purists and it’s not as intriguingly exciting as test cricket but you get to see some great players (especially the women’s game) smashing the ball about and some close finishes. As a bit of fun I think it’s pretty good. If it gets people into cricket then even better.

I agree with that last bit, said much the same above. Anything that draws crowds to cricket (and viewers, especially free to air on the BBC) is fine by me really. If it helps I’m not a huge fan of T20 either but I’ve come to accept it even with my puritan ways.

Funnily enough I don’t like the T20 very much but I’ve been enjoying the hundred. Maybe it’s the novelty although I have enjoyed looking at the teams and there being 3 or 4 players in each team I really want to watch.

I think it will do absolute wonders for the women’s game though, irrespective of how it impacts on the men’s

Yup, I heartily approve of anything that raises the profile of the women’s game.

It's because the ECB invented T20, but didn't market or monetise it properly. India then turned out in to a massive cash cow, so the ECB said "let's invent another game", but couldn't actually come up with anything that innovative.

I know you knew too, I was in full mansplaining mode for some reason.

FFS people need to chill, no one loves 5 day block block block Geoffrey Boycott style more than me, however I love this smash it about stuff the hundred or T20 bring it on it's great, you miserable feckers

Wonder if Johnny Bairstow is surprised to find himself being Welsh.

That marchant de Lange was hopeless for Glammy but looked decent today.

I agree with the comments about the on screen graphics, they're terrible.
The one thing that struck me watching last night's match was that there seemed to be far more women/girls spectating than at a normal T20.
If that continues it will have been a success.
