The press and the passion

It’s so much easier to get players to buy into a high energy pressing game when you get the results the effort you put in deserves

I don't buy into we had a manager bounce, like many said and which we are still riding on. Simply put, Matos has come in and got the team to do basics again and then start working on his own tactics of pressing and being more pro active. With the whole squad playing a part. Today was excellent and by far the best I have seen the team press in years. I do question not having a striker in the first half, but understand the need based on the amount of matches. I'm not sure if it was West Brom subs or Widell coming off, but I said it before Widell is starting to become the player who drives the team to press. When he went off we slightly lost that.

Widdel was fantastic. Add stamenic to that. We've got some serious players at this level and I've maintained that all season despite skme saying they're all crap

Im not one to start being all, we will get promoted and all that stuff, as any team are not far off from being great to poor, but I have been saying it all season, there is a few on here who keep saying we have a poor squad. We really don't. Yes we have Key 😂, and need to strengthen, but Sheehan, we'll O Dea tore up any confidence we had in pre season when the warning signs was there.

We appointed Matos on 24 November.

Don't get me wrong - agree with everything you've said about the press being much improved etc, I love what he's done so far, and I'm starting to get excited by what we could be capable of. But we are still in prime bounce territory. Don't forget Sheehan had us going for a good 3 months at the end of last season. And the core of this group has proved before that they can go off the boil at the drop of a hat.

Let's enjoy it, let's hope it keeps on going, but let's be wary of anointing him the king of Swansea just yet. Still a long way to go.

Totally. I am not one to start giving managers the key to the city 😂🗝️, but Sheehan was with these players a long time before his appointment. Plus Matos went weeks without his backroom staff. I'm too scared to say he is a special manager. Maybe that's negative? But we are in good form and based on what we are seeing, there seems to be something different with this team than under Sheehan. A desire to fight. Let's all enjoy as you said. And get a result on Sunday 👍

It was really good to see the press and the effort put in. Some of the players were really shattered by the end, but I couldn't fault their effort. Well deserved win

there is a few on here who keep saying we have a poor squad. We really don't.

There are probably only ever a handful of teams in the division each season who are entirely happy with their squad, and in most seasons they tend to be the relegated Prem sides. Most others will have one or two standout players, with the remainder being decent pros. Maybe now and again a team will be absolute irredemable shite, like Cardiff were last season.

A squad like the general ones can be made to look much worse than it is by poor coaching, and better than the sum of its parts by good coaching. We've seen how a hapless manager can make a decent squad look useless when Russy was in charge. We've seen how a turnaround can be almost immediate when Sheezy took over from Williams.

I don't think there has been a season since we got relegated that we didn't have a squad capable of at least a top ten finish, and for the first five years we had one that arguably should have made the playoffs.

Its crazy to think that Martin got a 10th placed finish despite going half the season with only three wins (and two of those against ten men)

All it took was ten games without his bullshit process and the squad showed what it was actually capable of. The two years he was here were a massive waste of time and resources.

The golden years seem like a lifetime ago but the one thing that I always remember was our work rate. The Evening Post always posted stats on how much ground we covered, I recall us always having Leon, Joe and a few others in the top of the pops list. First to everything, movement and options everywhere.
Subjective opinion but I feel post Potter, this has been our downfall. Watching Ayew and N’tcham stamping their feet and losing it because nobody had gone with them on a break….
Watching Ronald win the ball back and Jay pouncing on it that far up the pitch brought me great joy, especially for Fulton.
Not there today but boys are raving about us.
