Joel Piroe returns for the Swans at Preston tomorrow night after sitting out three games due to suspension following the red card at Burnley. Russell Martin admits that the striker is in the best shape he has seen with the player fired up ahead of his return to action this evening against Preston North...

This went well.

He has been dreadful all season, had a rest, came back worse.

Some thought he was worth £20M six months ago.

I don't think anyone would give us £2M now.

Ummm. Any chance of the old one back, preferably without the trampoline boots.

We’d struggle to sell him for glue at the moment.

Complete over reaction. Class player who didn't get barely any service from slow predictable build up. piroe aside could you pick any player out as decent tonight? 1st half poor 2nd better but only lost to a mistake by darling. Preston done a job moving the ball and closing quickly. We move on 🙂

He's played 15 games this season & been consistently poor, unfortunately it seems a bit more than a dip in form.

Wonder how much it's a mentality thing. Last year he was top boy, now with Oba and Ollie ( along with few others) scoring, perhaps his ego has melted ? Either way, Russ as the manager needs to sort him quickly, that's part of what hes6paid for .

Hi Joel, welcome to Planet Swans!

It's nothing to do with fitness or mentality. His best football last season came either as a forward with Paterson behind him creating the chances, or him doing the same for Obafemi. This year he's barely been able to do either.

I don't think he's helped by the comparative lack of width in this team compared to last year either. He's got a lot more space to work in when there's a genuine overlap to exploit.

The lack of width is a major problem, for me Piroe needs to start in behind Obafemi, he can't lead the line on his own in this team, nowhere near enough mobility.
