Tragedy in the English Channel

An absolute tragedy and the French have blood on their hands. They state that over 60% of attempted crossings are intercepted and yet there’s a film crew on hand at a French beach filming whilst thirty migrants pile into a dinghy. It’s not only the French that are culpable and politics need to be put aside so that a European solution can be found.

Why should France stop them coming here?

How about we stop invading and bombing those peoples countries, and their homes? How about we stop arming whichever foreign militia is flavour of the month with our government? How about we keep our noses out of other countries business? We are reaping what we have sown.

The French have blood on their hands? Not for me they don't.

I pretty much agree, said similar on the other board a couple of weeks ago on the other board, all the fault of the French though. Maybe we need some kind of joint solution, like a union or something……

At any time of the year.

Well yes of course but especially at this time of year with rough seas and freezing water.

Some of them believe that it is better to die in the attempt than not try...let that sink in for a bit. They are that desperate! Priti Patel's rhetoric (xenophobic action) is doomed to fail as the immigrants think, get to Britain or die trying are the only alternatives.

The world is fucked up.

I agree with most of that but the French should be doing far more to stop desperate people killing themselves whatever has gone on in the past.
I said on Twitter weeks ago nobody should be crossing the channel in a dinghy at this time of the year.

If our government were that concerned with doing our bit, then those poor people would be able to apply for asylum here, without having to make the crossing. You and others, cannot keep blaming the French, this is a humanity problem for the world, no matter how much Boris the clown tries paying the French off.

We now have net migration from this country so more people are leaving Boris’ Britain than coming here. At the same time we have a million job vacancies that British people are reluctant to apply for. Most of these desperate people would love a chance to do those jobs.

Boris won’t give them a chance to settle here though because that doesn’t fit with the Brexit narrative of “taking control of our borders”.

If French police are sitting on the same beach watching these poor people entering the water they deserve all the blame in the world.

A lazy and simplistic view, which is exactly what Patel, Johnson and the right wing media want you think. Congratulations, you've been sucked in.

Bloody Frenchies.

No it’s not it’s called being a human being.
Whatever the politics are seeing someone going to their death is not very humane.

If you saw a homeless girl walking into the sea to end her life this weekend what would you do then, try and save her or sit back and think “oh well Boris this is another death on you.”

Oh and I’ve not been sucked in this is the worst government and prime minister in my lifetime.

They have a responsibility no doubt, all the blame though? No, we need to take our fair share too.

Nobody’s saying it’s nothing to do with this utter scum in London it’s the people that are saying it’s nothing to do with France that I’m not getting.
Of course they’ve got a responsibility,a responsibility to be human beings.

What is the answer? This has been going on for more than the past couple of years that the media portray.
It's a problem that is swept under the carpet by all countries concerned.

Indeed, I thought when you said all the French should take all blame you meant all the blame. I would like to see how many police are patrolling these beaches? If it’s a couple of dozen migrants and one panda car there’s nothing they can do for there and then, but I have heard conflicting reports that they are aiding and abetting the launches of these dinghies. If true they are as bad a Pritti Patel and our bunch of criminals. I don’t think the French have any moral responsibility to keep them in France though.

I brought the subject of the French authorities into this discussion. Nowhere above does it state that I lay all blame at the shores of northern France and nobody has said it since. The context of my words were based on French TV crews filing migrants getting into a boat only just yesterday morning, all within a short distance from the port of Calais where there is considerable French border control presence.

Let me clear - they do not have a moral obligation to detain them if they attempt to leave France, even if they have an obligation to offer them asylum when they get there.
