While I'm not going to hold up the UK's leaders as paragons of virtue, I'd be fascinated to know which are known murdering gangsters?

Churchill for one, Blair another.

Churchill I'll give you, with the caveat of it being very different times and there was the little matter of a world war going on. The ongoing debate about his legacy suggests he wouldn't get anywhere near leadership of the country today.

Blair we only really found out about after he was gone and I'd say his reputation amongst a large portion of the population is muck as a result.

Putin was already a murdering gangster before he got voted in, which would seem to be very different. Who knows if the election was legitimate of course.
