Utter Scum.

Although Pompey has gone a bit far with the ban all dogs haha I do have sympathy and my views are shaped in same way.

I was playing football as a kid and attacked by an Alsatian. But in this day and age any criticism of dogs is like racism.

There is this level of anxiety that kicks in you can’t shake it as an adult. I’m always on guard with bigger dogs.

There are lovely dogs and brilliant owners but the level of dog ownership is off the chart now and many of these people should never have a dog nevermind a beast dog.
You're comparing peoples fear of dogs to racism?

This is just an awful story.

According to one report I’ve just read the police have seized the dog to see if it’s an XLbully. The same report also states the baby was visiting the address which could be owned by relatives. There’s also a suggestion the dog was “spooked” by fireworks.

We’ll have to wait to hear what actually happened, but if it is an XLbully it makes me wonder why people would want a dog they may not be able to control if something went wrong.

Not knowung the facts , we need to wait , but my own experiences ive learnt not to trust any dogs, being an ex runner ive had many a little bastard run at me , with the owners aying "hes alright , he wont bite, just being friendly" , and being surrounded by about 6-7 of them , as the woman who was walking them rub off screaming! one of them bit me, found out later it had bit a kid the week before, not sure if its dogs or the owners need training

I've had pet dogs all my life (sheepdogs for the animals & geese and Staffordshire Bull Terriers to keep the Travellers away) and brought up 3 sons and 2 grandchildren with at least 3 dogs at home at any point in time.

In all that time I have never ever trusted them with children until they are at least 10 years old. They are loving pets but, at the end of the day, they are unpredictable and quickly get stressed / provoked / annoyed / jealous around children of all ages. One of my current dogs gets overly maternal and protective around babies which means she's unpredictable around older children or adults. You have to know your dog and keep boundaries.

This is a tragic incident and an awful reminder about the dangers of dogs and children.

I support a number of pet shelters and fund a few dogs so they can live in "no kill" shelters until they find a loving home.

I'm appalled by the incessant breeding and discarding of dogs. As all of us grown ups know, dogs are fashion accessories or creatures to be bought on a whim. Instead they can be loving companions and best friends. Much tighter controls are needed on the breeding and sale of dogs. Many of us will remember Lucie's Law - unfortunately nothing much has changed in reality.
