1950's

Thanks , that's one of the oldest I have seen , it opened about 1938 I think

"A typical Art Deco style 1930’s cinema front incorporated into shops on either side."

"This opened on 3rd December 1938 as the Maxime Cinema and was built for and operated by Cornell Cinemas Ltd. a local independent. It was equipped with a 2Manual Lafleur (Hammond) organ."

"From 13th December 1943 it was taken over by Oscar Deutsch’s Odeon Theatres Ltd. chain and was re-named Odeon from 21st July 1947."

"The Odeon closed on 17th February 1962 and was converted into a Top Rank Bingo Club a week later. In it last years of operation it was a Mecca Bingo which closed in October 1995. The auditorium was demolished in 2000 and a block of flats ‘Maxime Court’ was built on the site. The facade is in retail use."

Ah, yes, it's all coming back to me now, I was still living in Sketty in Feb '62 and remember being disappointed at it closing as a cinema and becoming the Top Rank Bingo Club. No more Saturday morning pictures for me 😢. We moved from Sketty to Llandudno in Dec' 62 because of my dad's job.

Taken from an Evening Post newspaper in 2004.

Some of the other artists mention I vaguely remember , but long since forgotten about .

Sorry I missed this.
That’s the cover to this album.

Me and my boy vintage 1995.
Believe it or not eight years ‘after’ the event going for a walk up the pub.
