If you drop the 25 cap rule, given the wages in Wales are lower than what players can potentially trouser elsewhere there’s a real risk of an exodus and the regions being decimated.
The Club game is struggling, I watch a reasonable amount of the new SRC tournament, the emphasis among the Clubs is supposed to be about developing players, but I’m not sure all the clubs have actually bought in to the concept. Some Regions have “shared” the youngsters out amount their “feeder clubs” while others are pooling them which distorts the playing level, - full time pro’s against kids and semi pro’s isn’t always a great developmental tool !!
Gatland is quite rightly copping some flak, but this isn’t all down to him. Pivac was slaughtered and no it’s Gatland’s turn. We’ve not got the players and the WRU and Regions hostility has created a toxic atmosphere which has seen the game implode. Years ago, most clubs had a first and second team, but that’s far from the case these days. I’d like to see heads roll at the WRU.
