• Thank you very much | Diolch yn fawr

All at JackArmy.net would like to thank everyone who has played a part on this site over the past 25 years whether that is through writing, contributing, moderating, posting or just visting and reading.

Without any of you the work that has gone into the site would have been pointless and we will always be proud that we built, generated and managed a community that was such a big part of the Swansea City supporting life for so long.

It has been a pleasure to bring to you the site for so long but the time is now right to turn the lights out for the last time but we do it both with a heavy heart and a sense of pride driven by the so many messages received since we announced the closure.

The site will remain here for a period until we archive and mothball it for the last time later this summer but all aspects are in a read only format.

Thank you though for all the memories

A sad day for rugby in Wales. With the exception of those on the inside, is there a vocal supporter of WRU performance out there?

bbcCardiiff quick to point out only 13 ,iles betweenswansea and Llanelli........... rat infested cardiff to newport 14 iles.

Never ceases to entertain how Welsh rugby always shoots itself in the foot. Should never have gone full time professional all those years ago, was never remotely sustainable. It was fine as it was i.e. a small time parochial concern, with all the "my valley is better than your valley" petty bollocks behind it.

I was listening to some guy on wireless earlier who was saying the WRU can’t afford to fund four clubs.
Why the fuck aren’t they funding themselves?
Imagine one of the four Welsh clubs in the Football League having to go because the FAW could afford it.
What a load of bollox.

Club rugby in Wales is a joke, I totally agree with you, why shouldn't they fund themselves?

If I were the owners of the Ospreys, I tell the WRU to shove their offer, redevelop St Helens and do whatever it takes to join the English set up.

I don’t have an issue with the WRU funding the regions. Towns like Llanelli are simply not large enough to sustain a club which should arguably be towards the top and of world rugby. Therefore the funding gap has to come from somewhere. What I do find ludicrous is the fact that the WRU cannot support four clubs on the back of income in excess of £100m each year. I’m going to have a read of the annual accounts and see where this is getting spent.

In terms of funding what's the difference between the WRU and how the Irish do it?

Very rough numbers:

WRU: £100m income, of which £20m goes to the four regions.

Irish RFU: £80m income, of which £30m goes to the four provinces.

Please take with a small pinch of salt as I am remembering detail I read some time ago.

Not much difference in funding, hell of a difference in how the regions operate.

I guess the issue lay with those in charge, which we probably all ready know.

‘WRU vanity projects’ was a term I used to hear, although I’m not quite sure what exactly this means. My curiosity in this means that I will go and have a further read.

And yes, even if the numbers are only reasonably accurate then there’s hell of a difference in the outcome.

Probably wasted a ton of money on the "old boys" club.

Absolutely.

And if they can't, then it's time to go back to being semi-pro or even amateur again.
