Wrexham v Stockport

That the owners will do what they can to make them competitive if they get promoted?

Every season they have been promoted the side has had investment to make them better for the league they are in.

Not a great jump from L2 to L1 in terms of quality, there is a big jump to the Championship and their squad is a good L1 side similar to Portsmouth, Derby and Oxford last season.

I can't see past Leicester, Ipswich and Southampton to not bounce back and chuck n the 3 sides who will miss out on the playoffs and even ourselves and Millwall will fair better next season.

Not to say the will get relegated but looking at their squad and watching a number of games with their route one hoof ball i doubt they will be top half without a lot of additions this summer.

Ipswich and Southampton are more likely to struggle than Leicester
It is definitely a weaker three coming down than last season though

The proof will be in the pudding, I guess.

Their owners won't want to just survive if they get promoted and anything is possible in the Championship. Just look at Ipswich promotion last year and the possible relegation of Luton this season.

Wrexham have just announced a pre season tour of the southern hemisphere playing A League sides Auckland FC, Melbourne Victory, Sydney and Perth.

That is a pretty expensive pre season, i would imagine the weather in July will be certainly cold and wet in Auckland, Sydney and Melbourne.

If Wrexham succeed in being promoted this season, they will have achieved 3 promotions in 3 seasons. They have been financially backed every season, sponsorship revenue will continue to increase, they're building a new stand at some point, they have worldwide support thanks to the documentary and their celebrity owners.

If they came up and I had to put money on whether their next change of division would be through promotion or relegation, there's no doubt I'd go for promotion.

I'd be shocked if they did an Ipswich and went straight up, but I could see a trajectory like Luton's. After winning League 1, Luton finished 19th, 12th, 6th, before finishing 3rd and winning the playoffs. That was without a lot of the advantages listed above that Wrexham benefit from.

How they fixed for financial fair play? Surely the step up and larger crowds hasn’t brought in that much more revenue?

Their average crowd is 11.5k

Their commercial income has gone through the roof.
I don't know about their spending or wages, but I'd imagine they're fine

I believe their revenue went up massively in the latest set of accounts (which I think was for their League 2 season) and will presumably do so again for this season.

As they progress through the divisions, their attractiveness to sponsors continues to rise. They've gone from Ifor Williams Trailers to United Airlines in a few years.

Plus the likes of Stoke and Cardiff have shown it's possible to lose money hand over fist yet still buy players and not fall foul of the financial rules somehow.

It's a good shout.

I wonder how much wiggle room they get with the revenue brought in through sponsorship and the Disney documentary.

It has been suggested that lower league clubs are not subjected to the same level of scrutiny that Championship and Premier league clubs are but i find that hard to believe. Edit see below

Yes, Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules do apply to League 1 and League 2 clubs, but they are implemented through a different framework called the Salary Cost Management Protocol (SCMP). This protocol, rather than the broader FFP rules, sets specific spending limits for player-related expenses for clubs in those leagues.

Here's a more detailed breakdown:

  • SCMP:
The SCMP is the financial framework specifically designed for League 1 and League 2 clubs.
  • Spending Limits:
Under the SCMP, League 1 clubs can spend a maximum of 60% of their turnover on player-related expenses, while League 2 clubs are limited to 50%.
  • Impact on Investment:
The SCMP also restricts how much of an owner's investment can be spent on players, with a proportion of investment exceeding a certain threshold being subject to the SCMP limits.
  • Extra Income:
Income from areas like prize money, cup earnings, and transfer fees is also subject to the SCMP limits, rather than being entirely available for player-related spending.

Sounds like a proper scrappy match—what division is this being played in, National League or League Two? Do you think Wrexham's ownership is prepared to spend big if they go up, or will they try to stick with this squad? Also, is there anyone on the pitch who actually looks league-ready, or is it all hustle and hoofball?
Tell me you are an AI bot without telling me your an AI bot.
( I love the serious responses to this word salad by the way. Its utter fking nonsense.)

It’ll get them used to cold, wet Tuesday nights at Stoke and Millwall.

Everyone is loving the owners enthusiasm for the club, but i wonder how quickly that enthusiasm dwindles when they have a bad/boring season. lets be honest since the owners came in they haven't had a bad season, its been all highs.

Mostly because they've easily attracted players who would never have gone there if it wasn't for the documentary and the money.
