Josh Key

We haven't had a Josh Key thread for a while. Nothing's changed since his shocker against Norwich. Defensively suspect, prone to carrying the ball too far and giving the ball away in dangerous areas.

Was one of my favourite players this time last year, a real bright spark. Started noticing around then that he does take the ball  too far quite often, but assumed he'd have that coached out of him.

Here we are 12 months on, and it's become a real issue of his. Every game he'll beat two or three players, and then just keep going until he inevitably runs into a black hole and loses the ball, so frustrating.

Been a few times this season where he's lost it centrally and cause us a real issue.

Fingers crossed that he still manages to snap out of it, as he's a genuinely good player at this level
No Joke. Blame Williams. Since the Gareth Bale Comparison, I started to notice Key floating in midfield and leaving spaces and giving it away. Since Sheehan has been in charge, we have seen less of above and still with elements of giving away. But not so much. You can see that in the whole team. Bad habits still live in them. Look no match is gonna be perfect and if we was perfect we would be top of league. But time will kick out silly giveaways. All the players have been guilty of this all season and on massive scale where it's lead to loses. Now we see less but still there. Hopefully it can get better.

Looks a bit unfit for a full 90 for me.

He often fails to readjust his hips and feet which suggests fatigue - frequently this results in him giving the ball away.

I think we need to consider what his manager was asking him to do at the time.

Plenty of roles at my company I'm not capable of doing. I'd have ago if my boss asked, told me to do.

Interesting point of view. Personally I don't see that. But maybe I have been looking at other areas of his game. I would say we defo have other players who look more wiped out at the end than Key. Cullen, Franco, Eom. That's no dig at them. Just pointing out. Might be wrong.

Just tries doing too much for my liking. Instead of playing it simple he’ll try to beat the extra man inevitably costing us possession. Almost cost us a goal today too, by doing the above.

He's still doing it, so probably not the manager's fault. And he's done it for multiple managers.

Not noticed him doing it under Duff or under Sheehan so far, doesn't mean he isn't.

Wasn't at todays game so can't comment.

I think he'd make a decent right winger..

Ronald on the left, key on the right and a new right back in the summer
Hangs on to the ball for far too long without doing anything with it, and then inevitably loses it. At least if he loses it higher up the pitch he won't put us in the same mess he did today.

To be fair, Cabango, Darling and Franco all gave it away today that could of lead to goals. Not that I'm defending Key. But old habits need to be trained out of them.

As others have said his decision making on when to release & when to retain possession is terrible.
He put us in trouble a couple of times yesterday & even though he's not drifting into central midfield as he did under Williams he's still coughing up the ball.
I don't see how you can play him as a winger because he hasn't got the skill to beat a fullback & his crossing isn't great.
Shame really, looked promising when he originally signed.

Gave it away countless times again yesterday for doing as others have pointed out, trying to beat too many players. Lost count of the times he beat his man and an early ball for Ronnie was on, but he’d rather try and beat another couple or wait until someone comes up from behind him to take the ball off him. Time and time again he done it.

Him coming inside was definitely a tactic of the last manager, trying to beat Gareth Bale is his own doing I reckon.

That's a shame, I haven't any of yesterdays game.

It probably doesn't help that we don't really have any competition for the right back spot.

The back four basically know they are undroppable due to us not having any replacements.
