Not making comment on Wrexham’s finances, but the ‘fact’ going round that Wrexham have only made a loss dues to repayment of owners’ loans cannot be correct as repayment (or receipt) of a loan does not affect profit or loss. It’s a balance sheet and cash flow issue.

In the same way an owner putting in equity also does not affect profit and loss.

Rules are around profit and loss as well as cash flow. Owners can directly affect one (cash flow) but not the other.

Where Wrexham do win out is their ability to attract sponsorship due to their owners. Sponsorship income does affect profit and loss and allows them to spend more and remain within rules.

It’s not that repayment isn’t in the accounts because of timing, it’s that repayment will never be included in the profit and loss account because it’s not a profit and loss item and therefore can’t be included. It only affects to the balance sheet and the cash flow. Rules are largely around profit and loss for football clubs and their ability to spend.

Them loaning the club money (which was ‘repaid’ as they converted it into shares instead by the way) doesn’t affect their profits. Ever. So it can’t be used to, for example, pay a load of players if they don’t earn the revenue to support it.

Added - the only aspect of owners loans which does affect the profit and loss is interest on those loans which are substantial as R&R are charging 3% over Bank of England base rate.

I’ve just had a Quick Look and despite large commercial income for the division, the club are making a relatively substantial loss. They are only a going concern because the owners have committed to support the club, same as us.

6th, I think a lot of people are going to be massively surprised by their signings etc. Ideally they go big on a few flops and struggle at the lower end, proper introduction to championship football that would be

I was told a few weeks back that if they go up then they are going to push hard to sign Kieffer Moore, supposedly there has already been dialogue between the 2 camps.

They've consistently bought in players capable of playing a division higher than where they currently are.
I doubt they're going to be able to convince active PL players to drop down to join them, unless they're offering ridiculous wages.
Someone like Vardy could go there.
I suspect now they'll start to look abroad.

I don't think they have the recruitment teams in place to recruit outside the UK, although I daresay that's something they plan to change. So far all players recruited have been UK based.

I think they will finish top half. They will make a number of eye catching signings of top Championship performers, or at least above average ones. It would not surprise me if they go after Tymon, as I doubt MacLean can play 90 minutes games in the Championship any more. Tymon and Kieffer Moore could be a potent combination.

I think that started a while back. Reading got them to pay over £2m for Sam Smith (not that one) in January. He may well be a good player at Championship level next season, but he's 27, has never played above League 1, and had a solid not spectacular record of 11 goals in 26 games when Wrexham signed him for that big fee.

The biggest problem Wrexham will have is the manager. It sounds a bit daft after three straight promotions, but I'm not sure about Phil Parkinson at Championship level. Besides that, good luck to them, and I hope they finish next season one place behind us.

How do you define Welsh? They were always the bulk of Wales football fans back in the day, biggest Welsh speaking areas in Wales, you’ll never see a Union Jack in their support (unlike ours) sing Welsh songs / chants during their games and always have.
