Assisted Dying

The experience of other countries, particularly Canada, is that following assisted death becoming legal, palliative care budgets are slashed to the bone which leaves those who don’t want it in a desperate situation.

I’ll be very surprised if we are any different.

This is a bad idea, it’s rushed legislation and I’ll be amazed if it’s not repealed in a few years. There’s a genuine debate to be had about assisted dying with proper and detailed scrutiny and safeguarding. This wasn’t that.

Has this gone through rigorous consultation, with all the relevant parties from the ground up. Have we seen and learnt how this works in other countries for instance. Or is this MPs making it up as they go along. Forgive my ignorance as I haven't followed this debate that closely.

Nope. No public consultation. No impact assessments. None of the usual stuff that comes with major legislation like this. That stuff sounds boring, and it very often is,but there’s a reason it happens.

It really is a bad idea. Well done ECB for having a good bit of sense.
