• Thank you very much | Diolch yn fawr

All at JackArmy.net would like to thank everyone who has played a part on this site over the past 25 years whether that is through writing, contributing, moderating, posting or just visting and reading.

Without any of you the work that has gone into the site would have been pointless and we will always be proud that we built, generated and managed a community that was such a big part of the Swansea City supporting life for so long.

It has been a pleasure to bring to you the site for so long but the time is now right to turn the lights out for the last time but we do it both with a heavy heart and a sense of pride driven by the so many messages received since we announced the closure.

The site will remain here for a period until we archive and mothball it for the last time later this summer but all aspects are in a read only format.

Thank you though for all the memories

Good update from the owners here.

Some bits we already know, but good info about the new bar & info on the academy

My biggest take away from that was all to do with the academy:

Despite dropping from Cat1 to Cat2 our operating costs went up by 55% - not sure how this happened but even factoring in overall cost of living increases (including electricity as the likely main driver) this is pretty mental

Full audit of academy products and how many minutes they have played in the first team - a long standing weak point ever since our relegation when Dan James, Joe Rodon, Connor Roberts and Oli McBurnie broke into the team after we let go a huge amount of our relegation squad

Relocation of under 18s from Landore to Fairwood to better incorporate training methods, tactics and exposure to the u21s and first team - huge motivational drivers and also makes it easier for Sheehan and co to get a look at them and see who is making positive strides

Consultation for returning the academy to Cat1 - huge implications and a positive sign that the ambition of the new owners is not just in splashing crazy cash every summer in an unsustainable attempt to buy the lottery ticket that gets us back to the Premier League

Lots to like in that update. But top of the list is the acknowledgement that loss of Cat 1 status and underfunding that our Academy has suffered over several years has hit us hard in terms of producing first team ready talent.

The fact they're seriously considering going for Cat 1 again and they're increasing the current budget is probably the most important thing they've done since taking over. It signals how serious they are about trying to move the club forward, and it says they're planning properly for the long term, instead of the sticking plaster crap we had to put up with from the Chuckle Brothers.

If I wasn't before, I'm all in with this lot now. They're the real deal.

Indeed, especially since if they want to invest in the squad the Academy is a great place to start as it doesn't count towards PSR

Clinton Morrison saying if he was still playing he’d come to Swansea to play under Snoop & Modric. We are back baby.

Seeing as we have very wealthy ownership and the trust cannot really be diluted much further (not that it matters much anymore), our owners could fund the cat 1 costs between them (drop in the ocean to them) and I'm sure it would be a success, especially if the youth scouting is good and we can poach from lower level academies again like we did with Dan James etc.

Cat 1 status cannot be understated how vital it is. We had that one season where we had four players graduate from the academy into the first time (admittedly Potter didn't have a huge amount of choice with that but it still happened) and ever since we have had... Oli Cooper and Liam Cullen?

The latter has done reasonably well and had his career best season last year while Oli has gone backwards at a rate of knots under LW and needs to find his place in the team again. Right now he is the guy who runs around a lot but never makes the right decisions when he is in a promising position.

Yup, within a few years it could then be self sufficient

Great for them to just make contact, doesn't take a lot to do but keeps the link to the fans and we are in their thoughts.
It was little things like this that Kaplan and Levien never did.

Cabango also, although he alone doesn't really move the needle.
