The demise of Swansea City

Watched it yesterday very poor quality videos but a great( or not so great) look back at the 80's/90's.
The climb of the leagues was such a wonderful time as a kid. The dramatic collapse was bewildering. The next 15 years was some kind of drunken dream and then the reset. The Supporter's Trust and Mel Nurse should go down in Swansea history

100% the people who saved this club from the smallest contribution to the largest deserve our never ending respect and gratitude. For me the most exciting time in our history pre dates the glory period. It was that period post Petty. When the public woke up.

I remember raiding my TSB children's saving account to put £50 (which was all I had) into the "go fund me" campaign to save the club. If memory serves me right the funding campaign had a stall in Swansea Market.

I’ll never forget Torquay away in the play offs - heavy rain all day and we were on an open bank and their police kept us in for an hour after the game which just made sure we were soaked to the skin. I remember squelching onto the bus on the way home but it was a cracking night out on the Kingsway when we got back.

The season we nearly went out of the league was a massive ball roll for us, fans starting waking up to the fact that the club could be lost into the wilderness.....Trundle coming in kept the interest and then the journey really got moving.

Yep. The last couple of months of that Hull season was the start of everything. An awakening of fanbase to how close we were coming to losing what really means so much. I recall a thread on the original Jackarmy.net site titled "All aboard the Swansea Train" which went on for hundreds of pages and several years. I'd love to have a read back through that.

"Who can stop the Swansea Train". On the Rivals 3rd Division board(this is where we first ran into Stagmad and Oxoman)
As it turns out we did (stop the Swansea Train).
It was under Flynn and we ran out of coal.

You kept the club afloat for your children and future generations. Respect.

He has done his research. (the video maker) His knowledge of our playoff situation in 88 was pretty remarkable for someone who isnt a supporter. I am a self confessed statto and allround Swansea nerd and he got all the details absolutely bang on(us being 10th with 2 games left etc with literally only a mathematical chance of making playoffs. (Think Reading under Cooper) I'm impressed.

Swansea City🦢 v Sheffield United 🔪
