Kim Hellberg - Now’s the Time

I understand why people would think that but I wouldn’t have made the choice.

Anyway, I very much hoped that he’d prove to be a fantastic appointment and it’s a huge shame it hasn’t worked out.
I’ll tell you what was a huge shame….me parting with £28 to watch that rubbish last Saturday, and it won’t be Hellberg.

Just from looking at articles and what people have said about Hellberg, his style doesn’t sound as patient as Russell Martin. Possession based but faster and with purpose. Just looking at clips of Hammarby, they move the ball much quicker than we do.
Haha it would be impossible to move it any slower than us.

I wonder if the current Swedish manager might know anything about how Hellberg’s team plays🤔

Thank God we’ve changed owners.
  • Bradley took over Stabæk Fotball in Norway in September 2023.
  • He was unable to prevent the club’s relegation from the top tier and departed by mutual agreement in September 2024.
  • His profile page shows his current status as “Without Club” on coaching directories.

For me the reson I was ok to turn the page on Sheehan was the total lack of priority given to our attacking play. Whle he was rearranging the defensive deckchairs to make us solid, we were literally bottom on every championship attacking metric. My eyeballs were bleeding at the lack of creativity and lack of will to change it.
It is generally accepted that 45 points (or thereabouts) avoids relegation - as Mrs J would say - think about that!
You need to draw EVERY game to be safe and go unbeaten.
You would think a coach would prioritise winning games - which relies on scoring goals.
Winning 1 in every 3 games gets you safe - even if you lose the other 2.
FFS - IF there is any single thing that I want from the new coach - it is the mentality that we go out to win EVERY game and score the required number of goals - even if we fail we need to be relentless in pursuit of 3 points.

I agree, we need someone like that.

I think we tend to see possession football as the commonality between Martin and Williams and we say “that’s why that didn’t work.” But in reality both Martin and Williams were fairly inexperienced when we employed them, for me, that has more to do with why they failed here than the style they played, along with a lack of backing from the previous owners.

That’s nothing against Williams and Martin, I think both will end up having decent careers. Being a new coach to the level with Levien and Kaplan at the helm can’t have been easy.

At least Hellberg has five years of experience managing at two different levels of Swedish football. We know from the one time we’ve done it (Potter) that it can translate well to the Championship.

Good post. The problem has been the gradual erosion of what made us successful. It was never being pragmatic and favouring “direct” football.

When the swans have followed the latter path it has invariably led to disaster.

Passing football is in our dna. The problem has been the idea keeping possession at all costs is the way forward.

That is clearly dumb and all of the successful managers we have had favoured playing on the deck but mixing it up.

Switching play, the occasional long ball to keep defenders on their toes. Clearing lines when in danger this is smart especially when personnel are not able to play soundly from the back.

Attractive, offensive intelligent football that is flexible to a situation please. Let’s not let the frank burrows flat cap dinosaurs continue to drag us down.

Not sure what the issue is with some posters about Hellberg? He seems on paper an exciting manager who has a lot more experience than what we have had in years and seems to be the opposite of Sheehan. One thing for sure, if he gets appointed, I can't see fans being bored of slow build up football. His stats for being an attacking football team is promising. Let's gamble, I rather do this than league one managers from last few years or play it safe with a championship manager.
