The 'Vitor Matos' Managerial Thread?

Any time I invest a few million in to a football club, I tend to care about my investment and potential returns. If I was ITK and could see the team struggling, I would definitely chip in with ideas, regardless of my workload.
He has helped its been documented that hes aided in the recruitment and retention of players a lot.

But he's still got a playing career he can't be sat there 24/7 worrying about us appointing a dof and nor should he. He is only a minority owner at the end of the day.

I can't see this 900k release clause being a big deal. If you think he's a great candidate then he'll pay for himself pretty quickly, right? increased gate money/commercial money from winning games and prize money from a higher finishing position etc. That 900k would be taken care of by him being remotely good at his job.

I can understand looking to haggle the price as you do with players, but if you aren't willing to pay 900k then you admit you see him as just 'a guy' and not the person you believe can get the club back to winning ways. If there is a delay over the release clause I think it's just us looking to see if we can lower it rather than outright refusing to consider it.

I appreciate this is pessimistic but I look at the bottom of the table and how we've performed this season and I do wonder if this is the season we go down. Or at least come very close.

You wouldn't be surprised to see Sheffield United and probably Norwich drag themselves out of where they currently are. The usual strugglers, Stoke, Derby, Hull, to a lesser degree Preston are all 6-10 points above us. Charlton (ie the worst placed promoted clubs) are 6 points ahead of us too and the other two newly promoted clubs have more points, more about them and financial power in January.

When you look at the table, it doesn't take too much of a stretch to see us down there with Oxford, Portsmouth, maybe Blackburn, fighting for 2 relegation slots.

Every metric you want to use pretty much has us down as being crap. Eyes, stats, the fact we've only beaten the bottom 3 and the team currently in 19th (and none of them very convincingly)

Unless this guy has something that none of us are aware of (maybe he interviewed for the job after Williams went?), then it seems absolutely mental appointment.
Would an experienced championship manager be any less of a risk?

Liam Manning took Bristol City to the play offs last season yet struggled to get a win at Norwich this season and got sacked...
so how can we be sure appointing a manager with Championship experience is a safe option after all Norwich have an experienced DoF with a football background and appointed an experienced Championship manager and look where they are

Negotiation and decisiveness is not our strong point

As a few articles have pointed out this week - the fact that we do not have strong football people at the helm is going to haunt us.
About 2 months ago I was going to start a thread up Director of Football, we've got no experience in the football club, yet we're after some guy in the Portuguese 2nd division for a million.. if we're serious about anything, that 1 million should be Brendan Rodgers signing on fee and 1 million yearly contract and employ a proper DOF.. then we might be taken seriously.. it's a lot of league one, two national league coaches getting our gig and our head of recruitment is a notorious internet troll.. let's get serious, are we a serious football club? It's like a comedy sketch.. pay peanuts, get incompetent fools earning millions

And if Brendan Rogers doesn't want to come here? Ever heard the phrase, you can lead a horse to water, but . . . . . . . . . ?

If we're willing to buy out a manager for 1 million, we can get better and experienced managers than the Portuguese 2nd division.. it's madness

Whos not taking us seriously? Our club was praised from all corners for their business in the window, they sacked an underperforming manager - just as the fans wanted by the way and seem to have acted very quickly to get a replacement judging from the articles appearing today from Portugal. They also gave the boot to an ineffective DOF who is now in league 2. No complaints from me.
