We're in a relegation battle - pros and cons of booing the players

There was a lot of that by a group at the end of the game as the players came towards the fans.
Tymon came first and took the brunt and just stood taking it.
Others seemed to see and didn't come very close.
Sometimes I feel like the players just need to head down the tunnel.

As a fan the last thing I want to see is them standing there pathetically clapping their hands like they give a shit. If we get relegated half of them will be off and playing for another team in the Championship next season.

I should imagine its an easy thing to experience , hopefully the manager will get them all together and they can talk through it, like how the we see whats happening, their own performance and as a group work through it Spock like for their, our and the clubs benefit.
As they seem to be getting poid enough, if i had made and paid out what over a ton to watch that performance , especially after looking back at the highlights, ibe screaming and shouting as well.

I’m inclined to agree with the first point, but they’re a bit ‘damned if you do, damned if you don’t’ as if they don’t stay they get accused of disrespecting the fans.

Personally, I think that’s a load of old nonsense. I don’t need them to apologise or to reimburse me for my time and effort, I just want to see better performances in the next game.

I also think it's a load of old nonsense.

Fans are not asking much - run yourself into the ground for 90 mins and not 20, would be a fine start. If you think you can just turn up and knock off a quarter of the way into every game then you are going to get booed.

As you can probably tell, I've never been one for shifting blame onto the fans. I think it's cowardly and pathetic. (And that's not aimed at you btw, it's aimed at the players). We pay their wages. They've got no right to try and make us part of the problem. They need to grow up and grow a pair. There are 15,000 people in that stadium every game who would kill to be in their privileged position.
I agree with you about running into the ground. Effort is a basic requirement of an athlete in any sport and players these days earn more than enough to meet that requirement. However, I don’t think they’re purposefully dropping levels after 20 mins. It’ll be down to general fitness and opposition changing things mid-game. It’s not an excuse for some of the performances this season mind but I don’t think the drop off is purely a lack of effort. Take the game yesterday for example, we were two nil up at their place, momentum would have swung fully in their direction, they weren’t going to take being humiliated at home, of course we were going to have to defend for the rest of that half. The second half is where it gets frustrating as I think it’s down to mentality, we know we aren’t good defensively at the moment and I think the players let the pressure of a 0-2 lead get to them.

We have to let the nervousness and frailty go and learn to protect the points that we earn in games. 2 nil up at West Brom is decent despite their position and we really should have picked something up yesterday. Mindset has to change.

Mindset and mentality is the issue, I reckon.

I'm pretty sure most of us would appluad them off the pitch if they lost 3-2 and gave absolutely everything they could. I know I certainly would and have.

Whether it's purposeful or not, the fact is they did it, and they do it an awful lot don't they.

The point you make about being ready for the second half I made yesterday. What bothers me so much is our players looked like it came as a shock to them. FFS, unless you are playing one of the worst teams of all time like Derby 2008, going 2-0 up half time at any ground usually means the other team is going to come out second half with a rocket up their arse. Our response to that was absolutely pathetic, it was as if we were scared stiff at the prospect of doing a bit of defending for 15-20 mins just to make sure we protected the lead and let them run out of steam.

There is a real leadership and responsibility deficit in this squad, and it's been there since the Russell Martin days. It's rotten and it needs clearing out.

Sure, the managers' haven't helped our current situation, but there's only so much blame that can be pointed in one direction when it's a team sport!

What we need are not necessarily boos from our supporters'. What we need are players who seek continual improvement and want to be here. What we need are players who can identify flaws and take responsibility for failure - for themselves and as a team!

If the players can't handle criticism, moreso when justified, then they've picked the wrong career.

The team will ALWAYS get my support, regardless of where we are. Don't expect this support to come with meak silence and acceptance, however.

There is absolutely no dishonor in losing as long as they've given their all. The team, at present, aren't even giving it 10%!

Our defence issues are what worry me the most. 3 of the 4 defenders we play regularly finished 11th last season along with the same keeper in Vigs. Burgess is no slouch either. Even though that same defence conceded a lot under Williams at times, they can’t be as bad as they’re showing us.
