Up in the air the last few weeks, one or 2 don't think we need one but it looks like the powers that be have now decided we need someone with a bit more knowledge of the beautiful game.

Any suggestions on who people would like to see?
Savarese?
Michu?

Savarese would be a ridiculous get for us. And we won’t get him.

Still remember his debut. Stoke I think. Scored a couple and we were all very excited that we’d found a superstar.

I’m not sure who the possible options could be but I think we do need one. Michu would be a nostalgic choice and he does have some experience in that role now.

Not privy to any behind the scenes stuff but I find it odd that they got rid of Montague and now are looking to get in a Director of Football again. It does feel a little unorganised, like they are just seeking what works instead of following a long term plan, the new recruitment guy from Celtic is another example. Hopefully we end up with all the right puzzle pieces in place.

Got talking to the owners and some personnel of club in Swansea Jack after the Wrexham game. Really decent bunch fair play. They were talking openly to a bunch of us and doesn't sound like it would be a typical DoF role.

Would contradict what was said at the fans forum then. It was said that a DOF was on the agenda but there was no rush, it would be someone with a football back ground.
There again, it was also said that one or 2 within are not keen for it.

I didn't give you any details of what they said so not sure how it's contradictory lol

You didn't, that's correct.

Just adding that the fans forum it was said that a DOF was being looked at and it was needed, not everyone wanted one but there was a need for someone with knowledge of football and the role.
If they have since indicated that it wouldn't suggest a typical DOF type then it's wouldn't align to what was indicated at the forum.

Things change, I get that but I think it's clear a proper DOF and one with the correct knowledge and experience in the field is essential.

Fair enough. Doesn't sound too different in fairness but did give a bit more detail.

We were several drinks in so have just checked with my son in law and grandson who were with me to fill in the gaps.

They said it will be more operational, being across medical, connecting youth to first team, handling contract renewals of current players, but they stressed there wont be any involvement in recruitment as they are happy with things as they are. They said the set up they have in place makes them league leaders in that area.

Transfer negotiations will stay with Gorringe. Didn’t seem to be any rush, but said the operational workload is intense and needs to be shared at some point.

They were all very positive about Matos, they think it’s a hire that will be looked back on in years to come as a Roberto type appointment in its importance, said everyone is in this for the long haul and everything is geared towards a long term plan.

They were very open and friendly, and were buying people shots and taking selfies. Huge change from Kaplan and Levien actually felt like they cared. Really impressed. Rounded off a bloody good night. 👍
