It's been clear since he first came that there was a player in there. I think the basics were there to see that he had the tools to do a job and we are seeing it on a regular basis with him now starting regularly and being the main man.
A little bit of talk about keeping him this morning which my first thought was that the club are trying to build up a bit of interest in him. I would hope that it's being done in readiness for the summer window rather than this one.

I think we can all agree that if and when he does go, given his contract situation that we have to be looking close to and around 8M.

Guilty as charged. I didn’t think he’d make it as a striker with us. Large serving of humble pie has been devoured.

With selling strikers, it won’t just be about goals scored. It’ll be about his profile and his overall contribution. I personally feel he has a good all round game but the one thing that will go against him is his pace.

In the Premier League for example, all the “big forwards” the top clubs go for tend to have some pace on them, Haaland, Gyokeres, Delap for example. It’s no surprise that West Ham are interested as Nuno likes that type of striker.

That’s not to say we won’t get good money if he ends up being top scorer, but I think it’ll end up being in Serie A or even back in Ligue 1. I’d say if he scores over 20 for us then in and around 15m isn’t unreasonable given his age and length of contract.

What figure do you have in mind?

All depends on how he goes for the rest of the season to be honest.

If someone wants him in this window, they'll be desperate and we can stick a silly price tag on him, something like £15m. We would need a replacement and any club we're buying from would also inflate the fee, so we would need to sell high.

In the summer, Idah will presumably be fit and hopefully have scored a few more goals, so we wouldn't be as desperate for a ready made replacement for Vip and could take a punt on a younger player or someone from a lower standard league.

If Vip breaks the 20 goal mark this season and we get offers in the summer, we should be looking at more than we got for Piroe (who had less time left on his contract). I'd say £10m with a couple more million in clauses (if he scores 15+ goals, they get promoted, etc) on top should be the starting point.

All this is moot if he agitates for a move of course.

There are still some this season who criticise him. A striker thrives on service. He's getting that this season and surprise surprise.

Confidence is also key.

If you're in and out of the side and living off scraps then chances are going to be snatched at, or you'll take that extra touch in an attempt to be sure and end up being closed down.

He's clearly in a good space at the minute because he's burying most stuff. I think he only had three chances last night and scored two of them.

He deserved some of that criticism last season of course. He deserves enormous praise this season.

Looking at the reported fees for the last few Champ top scorers and high scoring players:

Akpom: 28 league goals, sold for €12.3m was 27 at the time. Last year of contract.

Szmodics: 27 league goals, sold for £9-11m was 26 at the time. Not the last year of his contract.

Piroe (not top scorer when he left us): 19 league goals, sold for around £10m, was 24 at the time. Last year of his contract.

Vipotnik will be 24 by the end of the season and if he ends it as top scorer, he’ll likely get 20+ goals at his current rate. The key for us is (unlike Piroe) Vipi will still have 2 years on his deal with us. Obviously profile plays into it and the amount of clubs that will be interested but we’ll be in a strong position to command a good 10m+ fee for Vipotnik in the summer.
