Evening all. It only seems like yesterday that Daz had posted that they'd finally lost their dog at around 17 years old (I think)

We are having our Lab put down (who is a couple of months shy of 15) on Saturday. Bloody horrible. Sorry for the morbid post but it just seems surreal.

Not morbid at all.

I know words won't help with how you're feeling right now, sending you all big hugs from here 💔

Yeah all a bit surreal, choked up when talking to the vet earlier. We took her this morning to try anti sickness meds, she had a massive vestibular episode last March and lord knows how she bounced back, but she did.

She's really deteriorating so it's only fair on her.

Sounds like its the best thing for her, doesn't make it any easier though.

Mate drop me a DM if you fancy a chat, I know it can be easier talking to a stranger about these type of things x

Very sorry to hear this. When you take your Lab there, do make sure to be with him or her as they pass. Dogs are supposed to be like three year old children mentally. The surgery is an alien place with strangers and your Lab will be anxious and scared so you being there holding them will be comforting. I didn't do that with my dog and he must have died scared. I still deeply regret it.

Really sorry to hear that, it's heartbreaking.

Been through it many times and I'm dreading the next (I have 3 dogs, a cat and horses).

I always ask the vet to sedate first and I hold them close.

Your Lab has enjoyed a wonderful life having loved and been loved by your family. 15 is a great age for a Lab.
Great advice from Pentyrch above about sedation beforehand. It's incredibly hard but stay with the dog throughout and hold them and soothe them.
Your hearts will be broken and no words can heal them. I'm so sorry and understand your pain. It's ok to cry.

I would really advise against it. I was there for our Staff/Lab cross at the vets. It was the worst thing I ever did and after the fact wished I'd never been there. It was awful and it's haunted me since, over 4 years and if we ever have another dog I won't be there when it happens.
