Play offs..

its a 13 game season really with so many teams bunched up. As we dont dont draw games, we can hope that there are plenty of draws elsewhere. That means win lose win lose etc is a net gain. Not impossible but ultimately pointless and next season would be utterly stinking if we did go up. No thanks.
I would gladly take a season of being bent over and railed in the Premier League week in week out for the financial reset after coming straight back down the season after.

Strange as it sounds. And I don't want to be that team. I would rather go up and compete, but the financial reward and what it would do even if we get relegated the season after would be a massive boost for the club.

Agree about competing but it didn't do Luton any favours and they competed.

After the Preston game 5 home games to play with 7 away games .
Unless we can improve our away form i can't see us pushing for the playoffs
I agree Malc, unfortunately it will be our away form which costs us a push for the play offs.

I agree it is unlikely, as I highlighted before we have possibly the hardest run in for the final 13 games of every team still in with a shout at the playoffs.

We play four of the current top 6 and eight of the top 12

The challenges in the summer would be trying to keep some of our star players and building on the squad sustainably. It is unlikely we will see the amount of work in the summer that there was last time around

When I first saw I final run of games I did have my fingers crossed that we weren't fighting for out lives.

The prefect summer would be keeping our key players, which I think we will, unless we get stupid offers and building on what we already have with a right back, central defender to challenge for a starting spot and some extra pace out wide on both flanks.

Personally I feel we aren't that far away from having a squad capable of challenging the top six.

What do we need to do or change to improve our away results?
Just more composure and better decision making in attacking positions

The Derby game we could and arguably should have been one or two goals up at half time but we failed to make the most of five or six really high quality attacking chances

You can also look at the Coventry away game, Hull away and more besides where we had like 15-16 shots and one or two shots on target. And thats not counting attacking opportunities where we isolate their full backs 1v1 and do nothing with it.

It is reassuring to be looking up the table rather than down it with the games left facing us.

Lissah and Congreve have by all accounts had excellent loans and I suspect they will come in to add genuine competition and shouts for the starting roles at right back and right wing respectively

We will probably have to brace ourselves to lose at least one if not two out of Vipotnik, Galbraith and Stamenic.

Stamenic is a proper midfield enforcer but he does get slightly too aggressive sometimes which is why right now he is a yellow card machine. After Preston he has 12 games left, if he gets five more yellows he will miss a whopping three games.

Galbraith would arguably be the player to profit the most if Stamenic does go and we get proper starters at right back so he can return to his preferred position. However his international performances combined with his performances in both right back and midfield for us along with his age and nationality make him a hugely appealing prospect for many sides.

Vipotnik has done spectacularly considering how criminal the lack of service was to him under Sheehan and even sometimes under Matos as well. 11 of his 16 goals have come at home, we just don't give him service or he would probably already be easily past 20 for the season.

Probably not too much imo. I mean it's a given for most teams that the away results aren't as good as at home and teams can't win every game. We've had a few games where we were unlucky to lose, and games were we should have been better. But I think what we're seeing right now under Matos is a bad run of away games and a small sample size that makes it look worse than it is. It definitely needs to be better but I don't think there's need to panic about it just yet.

.

we now clearly have the talent - on and off the pitch:
- highly talented wide 'n deep squad with oodles of latency to leverage
- inspired recruitment - some proper gems and ofc one the biggest and bestest gems, Vitor Matos
- best in class senior leadership - financial stewardship, recruitment, football heritage, marketing, PR etc etc.....
- super wealthy, super smart, committed owners

timing, is everything: the Swans are going up, for sure

Our problem is a lack of attacking threat we don't score enough goals , without Vp this season would have been a struggle .
Lack of creativity in the final third is a tough problem to solve .
The away form is poor because we haven't had some draws .

Vp goal against Bristol City showed good technique , not an easy finish.

The summer transfer was excellent in my opinion .
To move on so many players not good enough was good .
Where we are now with this squad shows
3 or 4 quality signings plus holding on to at least one of our stars will put us in a strong position .

We are 2 strikers short of a team that can get promoted, Coventry have 7 players who have scored more goals and assists than our 2nd best Norwich have 5 players even Stoke have 4. Without VP we would be royally f**cked
