He hasn’t. Burgess is the only outfield player to play every minute. The next best is a certain Matt Grimes.

It’s the case for most defensive pairings to play most, if not all minutes. It’s one of the least changed positions in any team after a goalkeeper. It’s just not realistic to expect starting quality players of 2 depth in every position, especially when we had such a bare squad this summer. We don’t have the budget for it.

Ideally we need a defender that can play full back and centre back in the squad. We had it with Alan Tate last time we were promoted, maybe Lissah will be able to do that moving forward.

Bennett had almost 300 appearances in the top 2 tiers - was very average at this level with us at the end of his career though tbf.

Burgess is a similar type of player, I agree, albeit with most appearances below Championship level. He’s more than competent at this level for a mid table side (same with Cabango). If you want to get to the playoffs you need an Ash type player to carry one of them (like he did with Garry Monk) and allow them to solely focus on defending.

I agree, he looked excellent when he joined but looked out of his depth by the end thanks to RM's "vision"

Ishe, Casey and Ward can all do CB and fullback. I think Casey was a bit mismanaged, he should have got more game time.

It amazes me how he and Cabango have become the blame for Fridays loss.
Yes Burgess failed to control his initial touch but watch it again that "mistake" didnt directly lead to the goal as the ball then had several touches the real villan is Key he was marking Briadbent but left him and followed the ball resulting in Broadbent being left in space leaving Burgess a task to get to him.

Why no blame shared on Franco or Vip for failing to take their chances?
Either or both goals go in and its a different game....Wrexham can no longer sit back and look to counter they have to attack the game opens up and we maybe score more.

Burgess and Cabango are not the calamties many make them out to be.
But its all about opinions

I agree our CB's are solid, but we need more from them.

Also the fact that there is zero pressure on their place in the team doesn't help. We need proper competition for places.

Burgess and Cabango are very one dimensional with Burgess being less dimensional than his partner in crime.

I firmly believe we won't challenge for promotion with both of these in the same side week in week out.

Watch it again. Why did he attempt to make the tackle on Broadbent with his left foot, when he could’ve clearly gone with his right, and possibly shown him down the line.
But like you say, it’s all about opinions.

Playing a natural left footer on as the right centre can be useful because It lets the defender step inside with the ball to open up central passing angles. It can help break a press.

The problem we have is that both our central defenders struggle to pass water.

It can and it can work for wingers too. However, we don’t play Burgess on the right, that’s Cabango’s position and Burgess found himself covering for his missing captain on his wrong side with a predictable outcome.
Burgess was poor in that instance because of his limitations and Cabango was AWOL.

This was my case I made a couple of pages back
Cabango is solid in the air and if you are throwing high balls into the box all day and he can just be a no frills center half he is great. But he has a tendency to ball watch and that was ultimately what cost us that first goal on Friday.

While you could blame Burgess's first touch for initially giving possession away, the ball went through another six or seven passes before the ball passed where Cabango was meant to be leaving Burgess as the only one of the two alive to the danger. He busted a gut to make up 10 yards of ground but momentum always meant the chop inside was on.
