Genuinely Excited

Why you think Stoke got shot? He came to us injured, not hindsight needed.
Because he was probably still on high wages, having signed his contract after relegation when the club had parachute payments and didn't need to worry about spending restrictions. They thought they'd go straight back up. Four years later, no way they could afford the same wages and I doubt Joe was willing to take a huge cut in wages to stay there.

As Dr.W said, he played almost all of Stoke's games in that last season (and was captain), plus he only played less than 35 games once in six seasons there. It hardly compares to Cardiff bringing back sicknote Ramsey.

It's not worked out here, but all this 'knew he was shot at the time' is just the usual bollocks from people who negatively predict everything and take perverse joy in being proven 'right'.

So what you are saying is he was fine up until the day he finished at Stoke and then he was fucked the day he started back at the swans.

I am also over the moon with Grimes leaving. It's a massive weight lifted off us to lose the dependency everyone seems to have on him.

Instantly brought back down to earth with a colossal thud now that they've named Cabangaffe as captain. Buckle up bois.

I agree.

I could end up with egg on my face saying this, but I'm convinced without having him there as a comfort blanket, it will force some of our players to grow up a bit and start taking on more responsibility.

It's been a problem for us for far too long, everything going through Grimes. Now he's off we'll have to do things differently and I can only see positives to come from that.

No, what I'm saying is that there was no reason to believe he was fucked looking at his time at Stoke. Others are saying things about his medical, I have no idea about that, other than saying it would be grossly irresponsible if the club signed him after a medical raised red flags.

Who would you suggest we made captain? Factoring in that Darling clearly wants away...

If I'm being completely honest, I think Cabango will try to at least try and galvanise in a better way than Grimes who was just a complete mute. If we conceded, he would just turn around and start walking back to half way by himself.

But seen as you mentioned Darling; with my tongue in my cheek it shows you how much I think of Cabango as a footballer where I wish we offered whatever we're now paying him as part of his new contract on top of what we offered Darling to stay.

Cabango is a solid enough defender with limitations. Someone somewhere once compared him to Kyle Bartley and that made sense to me.

Ask him to be a physical defender and he's more than capable of doing a job for any team in this division. Ask him to play football and he struggles. He's just not good enough on the deck for that, and oftentimes that's what gets him into trouble. Darling is much, much better with the ball at his feet.

Other teams know this as well.

Against Sheffield United, whenever we had a goal kick, one of their strikers immediately cut off the passing option to Darling and forced Vigouroux to pass to Cabango. Cabango then played the same pass every time, down the line to Key, and it was cut out more often than not

I don't disagree at all. But that's not good enough for us is it? Just like Bartley was absolutely nowhere good enough for what we were trying to do in the PL. He is a walking liability with his gaffes, and teams are clocking on to isolating others around him so that we must pass to him.

He was my preferred choice for captain. Not sure why. I think there may be a leader in there. I think he may thrive on it. Of course I have no basis on which to make either of those statements.

In terms of regular starters, you can only look at our back 4.
No one else up the pitch is a regular, enough to be captain.
Darling wants to go, Key nowhere near, Tymon Haha
Cabango was really the only option out of the whole squad.
Which says more about the squad than Cabango.
I hope he thrives with it though.

What we're trying to do now is get out of this division in an upwards direction, which teams containing Bartley have managed at least once to my knowledge. Maybe even twice. He's had a much better career than a lot of people give him credit for, and he's still a regular right at the top end of the division. Cabango is just as good.

Garry Monk is another example of what I'm on about. Not great on the ball, but good enough at the rest.
