Season 24/25| The Official Match Thread | Watford 1 Swansea City 0 | Att: 16,739 | The EFL Championship

A lot of positives to take from that for me.

We were the better team tonight against a team still with play off ambitions.

We were completely at the races too… but we created chances, showed a lot of attacking intent, but not quite the quality tonight.

We’ll be fine this season but obviously need some reinforcements for next season.

Yes. Eom scored a wonder goal against Boro, but the number of times he just fails to connect with dangerous crosses, or connects and fecks it up....two more to add to the list tonight.
These players have it in them, we need to realise that Eom is only 22 as is Vipotnik. These players will benefit from a full season in the English league but we need to add more players who have a history of creativity and goals in them.

It's clear as day what we need next season.

We will need a number of players, centre halves, central midfielders but attacking wise we need to be better in sourcing guys with a record of creativity and goals.

Upgrade Eom, Spudnik and Ronald (maybe Cullen). Keep or replace like for like the rest and we won't be far off next season.

They've literally not improved an inch all season.

Something I want to see from Sheehan which was completely lacking in Williams, when a player is playing like complete shyte all the time, he needs to be dropped and someone else given an opportunity. The dropped guy needs to reflect, and try harder. Work on his faults. It's not punishment. That's good old fashioned football management.
Ronald, I mean you, son.
Franco on a tightrope then ?

Our midfield control is beyond woeful and the way in which we get so massively rag-dolled and dominated so often is SO not a Swansea Midfield trait.

We’re at Risk. At risk of losing our edge, our winning identity……

Overall happy with the performance against a physical team, where in my opinion there could have been two reds.
The ref was poor and bottled decisions.

In saying all that here goes.

Cullen, Eom, Key and Ronald had poor games.
Yes Cullen had two good headers but offered little in open play.
Eom nearly scored but again offered little and his positional sense is close to zero.
Key again thinks he's better than he is and creates problems when in safe positions.
Ronald again puts in a shift but with very little threat.
I was crying out for subs at HT as it was clear we needed a change.
VP should have stayed on giving us more option when we really pressured late on.

With Burnley and Leeds to come I just hope that confidence isn't going to get a hit for the Derby and Plymouth games

That’s nothing to go by, I did more than Ronald and I was sitting on my arse eating popcorn.

Good review..and spot on.

Fulton sub was a bizarre one considering we were chasing the game and Vip coming off was an error for me

Seen an improvement in Vipotnik since Sheehan took over and Eom has struggled in his first season in British football.

This season will have been a learning curve and they will know what to expect going into next season.

That was a pretty dismal football match. We gave away a crap goal, and looked very blunt in attack.

Home games v Derby, Plymouth, Hull and Oxford to come. We need to take care of business there, and we'll be ok.

Shame about the goal and worst who actually caused it. For fairness I did eff and jeff at him for it and mistakes like that are almost divine intervention in where all the players were.
They should have had two sent off though and some woeful finishing bu EOM and vip being a yard away from connections would have seen it end differently.

I am gutted because that was a night that would have bought the breathing space that we needed.

Franco, I forgive you just don't do it again.

And Velcroix when the clock is ticking down please remember that we score the other end of the pitch and it really matter to us.

And another enforcer cameo by Fulton - well done.

We are regressing way below our identity. We have morphed into a scrambling, scurrying brand of nothingness without our midfield, pivotal control.

The way in which a poor Watford tore us to shreds - through our middle - is anathema to proper Swans fans.

We're sorely missing a proper controller, commander of all things Swans.

Franco and LOB are sub-optimal in that space.

We lack a strategic and tactical Controller with the confidence, ability and leadership to play on-Brand.

Without which we'll be just another no-knob lesser Cardiff..........
